Giving duan the credit for North Dakota, we return to MetHunter's second guess.
NOPE! First Met Born in South Dakota? Bob Rauch (Brookings). Greatest Met Born in South Dakota? Tom Hausman (Mobridge). Also? John Strohmayer, Kelvin Torve. Greatest Player Born in South Dakota? Probably Dave Collins (Rapid City), but also notable for Sparky Anderson (Bridgewater). Biggest Big Shot Born in South Dakota? Sticking with New England, we have:
Close! First Met Born in New Hampshire? Don Florence (Manchester). Greatest Met Born in New Hampshire? Don Florence (Manchester). Also? Nobody! Greatest Player Born in New Hampshire? Lets hear it for the late Mike Flanagan (Manchester). Biggest Big Shot Born in New Hampshire? A ton of politicians and authors. I'll go with Alan Shepherd or Mary Baker Eddy. Sticking with New's, we have:
C'rect! With a footnote (as you'll see below). Greatest Player Born in New Mexico? Ralph. McPherran. Kiner. (Santa Rita). Biggest Big Shot Born in New Mexico? Most big shot New Mexicans weren't actually born there. Janet Napolitano? Bill Richardson? Georgia O'Keefe? Minka Kelly? Poseurs, all. I'll go with physicist Ed Condon. Some say we were overprepared for this quiz. We should just be thankful that this trivia storm was not as devastating as the experts were predicting. The best result from any quiz is that all your answers come out alive even if a little damaged. People, it's just not worth it go out in a quiz like this and foolishly take on the elements just to find out if Wyoming really is one of the answers. We expect Con Edgy will restore answers to these questions as soon as possible. We ask you for your patience.

Two days later, the judges acknowledge that they have their fifth state. Future Mets Born in Wyoming? Brandon Nimmo. (Cheyenne). Greatest Player Born in Wyoming? Tom Browning. (Casper). Biggest Big Shot Born in Wyoming? Jackson Pollock (Cody). Dick Cheney was born in Indiana. Standings metsmarathon: 2 Chad Ochoseis: 2 dgwphotography: 2 duan: 2 Willets Point: 2 LeiterWagnerFaster: -1 Met Hunter: -1 smg58: -1 metirish: -2 [crossout]Alaska New Hampshire Rhode Island South Dakota Utah[/crossout] Thank you all for playing Giant Metless States of the West. I appreciate your participation and apologize for my lack thereof. We can actually turn this into a cool thread. Go state by state, starting with Alabama, and name the: First Met from there. Current Mets from there. Minor leaguers in the pipeline who are from there. (I'm sure this is availalbe, but damnaed if I know where to find it easily. I tiried) Greatest Met from there. Greatest ballplayer from there. Greatest man from there. Greatest woman from there. Greatest band from there. California, for instance would be Tom Seaver, Tom Seaver, Tom Seaver, Tom Seaver, Tom Seaver, Tom Seaver, Tom Seaver, and Tom Seaver.

OK, outstanding Grimmwork. Let's start with Alabama.

I would have guessed that Cleon was born in Mobile, but I looked it up (on UMDB, Retrosheet, and Baseball Reference) and it seems that he was born in Plateau which, according to Google Maps, is 5.5 miles away from downtown Mobile.

Whoa....deep cleansing breaths. It's a fine idea. We're just in lazy late-season mode here. Nickname: The Grand Canyon State License Plate Color: Maroon First Met from There: Gary Gentry, Phoenix Greatest Met from there: Gentry Current Mets from There: Jason Pridie (Phx), Nick Evans (Glendale) Mets Minor Leaguers in the Pipeline Who Are from There: Not gonna happen while I'm trying to meet a deadline at work Greatest Ballplayer from There: There's a distinct lack of greatness in Arizona, probably because it's pre-1975 population consisted of a million Saguaro cacti and Gary Gentry. Phoenix's own Andre Ethier is the best of a weakish lot. Greatest Ballplayer Name from There: Steve Phoenix of - yes - Phoenix pitched a total of six unimpressive innings for the Athletics in 1994 and 1995. Biggest Male Bigshot from There: Mo Udall Biggest Female Bigshot from There: I dunno. I vote for my Aunt Rachel. She's a sweetheart. Greatest Band from There: Machines of Loving Grace (Tucson).
