Jim, the Monstrously Huge Bat boy overworked...

Though I appreciate all the hard work that our administrators put into the running and maintenance of this site for the enjoyment of it's members, I feel compelled to express my concern for Jim, our monstrously huge bat boy. Jim, the overgrown bat boy is routinely assigned as an entry level guide to all new members of this fine community, but I feel he is being abused and taken advantage of by an increasing legion of newcomers that have no interest in his personal welfare or that of the Mets. There are currently 3800 new "members" to our site that have never bothered to post a single comment here. They simply join and disappear into the netherworld of the internet, leaving poor Jim to hold their spot in line, though they never have any intent of returning.

I am writing in hopes that we can lighten the work load of our beloved, bat boy Jim. I am hopeful that a means of limiting the immigration of these free loading members can be found in order to lighten Jim's burden. I fear for both his health and that of our fine community if this influx of non participatory members continues unchecked.

Is there any way that the the requirements for membership to this community can be raised to keep out those with no interest in the Mets or baseball in general, in order to protect Jim's rights? Is it possible to expel those that join simply to leave an email address and website link in hopes of duping our fine citizenry with dubious offers of unwanted products and services?

On behalf of Jim and myself, I thank you for your time in consideration of this matter.

I'm willing to volunteer time to work on expelling the legions of robot newcomers.

I can get to work on it after my Vegas trip next weekend.

Let me know if you're interested, admins.

We have an e-mail going around the team right now as to how to address this. They're coming in faster than we can delete them.

I get the impression that KC is in semi-retirement from the CPF. I hope that is all there is to it.

I've corresponded with him and he certainly seems to be himself. He and the missus are new parents of a hound that clearly adores him even more than we do.

Last I heard, a couple of really stupid shitstorms here in the pool really turned him off.

The spam thing seems to have been resolved. (At least for the foreseeable future.) No spam registrants for about 48 hours now.

We're still discussing ways to make it easier for real, non-spammy, users to enroll.

at least one gets through every five years or so.

when did we have a real new member last?

that's not a criticism of the admins or anything just curious.

Re: Jim, the Monstrously Huge Bat boy overworked...

No, it should be. We built the wall so high, that we made it near impossible. New folks arrived, and didn't know to write to us to ask for validation. New folks got through, but had their accounts wiped out in broad spammer sweeps.

A few months ago, a poster I met on FB got wiped out twice. TWICE!

No one person's fault. We just need to get our heads together on it, and now we have been.

As in most Fantastic Four adventures, most of the credit and thanks should go to Ben Grimm.

It's a good time to invite some folks on board and test the process.

Thanks!

It does appear that we've figured out how to keep the bad guys out; now we have to figure out a way to make sure the good guys can get in.

Ahab is a fake user that I created during my testing. Don't expect to see him posting any time soon!

Thanks for everything, Ben ... our ship would have capsized many
times over if not for our Captain Ahab.
