Tejada is good to go, so Reyes will indeed get his day off.

2 RBIs for Tejada as well as a first major league hit for Josh Satin so far.

Re: IGT 9/4/11 - Mets at Nationals

Here's my solution for the pace of game problem: A pitcher needs to throw a pitch within twenty seconds or:
- First offense: automatic Ball
- 2nd offense: automatic walk
- third offense: half-season suspension

At this point Pelfrey would be suspended through the year 2525 (if man is still alive?)

Duda ties it up with a HR as I'm venting.

Jason Bay, threat to the National security, singles to load them bases and knock out the pitcher.

Coffey takes over for Livan -- Team weight remains unchanged.

Re: IGT 9/4/11 - Mets at Nationals

Nickeas pulls off a suicide squeeze!!!!
Seems like the last time the Mets pulled one of those off Davey Johnson was in our dugout.

Re: IGT 9/4/11 - Mets at Nationals

He also pulls off a nice play not fielding a sacrifice bunt and letting it backspin foul. The batter subsequently GiDP'd.

Nice escaping the jam, Joshie.

Re: IGT 9/4/11 - Mets at Nationals

Igarashi faced one batter and he's the pitcher of record.

We go to the ninth.

Beato or Parnell?

Good win but they should have swept.

The Magic Number on clinching third is down to 21. With that kind of suspense, no wonder that the game against the Braves on 9/17 was moved to FOX.

Took a nap and woke up in time for innings 7-9. Also not on WPIX, a nice weekend of Mets on my actual TV, and Hagin-free.

1) You can never go wrong by throwing in Zager & Evans references. You just can't.

2) The length of these games is REALLY getting to me lately. Yeah, part of it is the recent Yanx/Sawx series which defies anyone's idea of good baseball*, but even two of these three Mets/Nats deals took over 3 hours and that 4th inning from Pelfrey just drove me nuts. Not only did he suck but he sucked at the rate of about two pitches per minute. Where have you gone Jim Kaat, our nation turns its tired eyes to you?

* As Phil Mushnick pointed out in his Sunday column, the 5-game game Mets/O's 1969 WS took almost the exact amount of total time (11 and change hours which included one extra inning game) as the recent three-game Yanx/Sawx series. It's a real problem for MLB IMO and any steps they've taken to correct it lately ain't working.

It did take Notre Dame almost six hours to lose to USF yesterday...

Re: IGT 9/4/11 - Mets at Nationals

It may have been a tough week, but I thought things were working better.

Just stay away from the Yanks/Sawx.

Wikipedia, in reverence to Zager & Evans, wrote:
RCA thought they were onto the "The Next Big Thing", but follow-up singles, such as "Mr. Turnkey" (a song about a rapist who nails his own wrist to the jail wall as punishment for his crime) went largely unnoticed by the public. "In the Year 2525" was their only Hot 100 entry.

How did this miss?!

Nice execution by the kids. (And a nice feather in the cap to Mr. Satin, getting his first belt-notch off junky Livan-- precisely the kind of guy who gives newbs and the overeager serious migraines.)

But, man alive, has Collins' cuntbunty side revealed itself this weekend, or what?

This thread links up with the parenthetical song thread in the non-baseball forum. The songs full title is "In The Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)"
