IGT - Nats @ Mets - 9/15 - Gay Dame

The steel death-cage match for 3rd place is on (and to stay away from the last-place Marlins).

So let's see now:
- they're going with a guy making his 3rd ML start (2nd against NYM) -- Tom Milone
- we're going with someone making his 2nd ML start -- Chris Schwinden

I think the fact that the Mets have spent the last 27 innings racking up an impressive 4 runs on 18 hits (16 of them singles*, 11 of them in one game) against rookies, near-rookies, and re-hab cases indicates that we're the ones that are going to have trouble taking advantage so watch/follow at your peril.
If you have known health risks please consult your physician before tuning in.
If the game lasts for more than four hours please consult a professional (a professional what I don't really care, just as long as he/she is a professional).

* those two non-singles were, of course, nothing more than doubles: Pagan's soft bloop over 1B on Monday which accounted for all the runs in that game, and Turner's boomer into the gap on the second pitch he saw PH-ing last night ... after which he was rewarded by being asked to bunt down by two runs with shit coming up after him.

The Nationals had the Mets just where they wanted--2 on, none out.

Re: IGT - Nats @ Mets - 9/15 - Gay Dame

So get the first two guys on and then don't score because the 3 & 4 hitters made three outs while not even getting the ball out of the infield.
Same Shit Different Day.

On the bright side, David Wright actually fielded a ground ball cleanly and got an out.

Now we'll never score.

4 scoreless (with some help, but still).

Someone might end up with his first Schwin, if this team can score some of the baserunners this other guy keeps putting on for them, gratis.

Pascucci makes an error, then saves a Tejada error.

defense?

And then pops out as the first batter of the next inning. It's like the inverse of that great-defensive-play-leads-to-batter-hitting-in-the-next-inning thing.

And then we spend another half-inning where no batter gets the ball past the fucking pitchers mound.
Good thing Terry shuffled the line-up so we get these "kids" in who obviously care more.

It's now reached the point where the opposing manager pulls his pitcher following a two-out bloop single.
I guess that's now a sign that your guy is losing it.

So what's the record for runs-balked-in in a season?

The Nats now have their runs in this game because of balks and because Pascucci couldn't pick up a ball that had essentially stopped rolling.

Re: IGT - Nats @ Mets - 9/15 - Gay Dame

2d balked in run this season (the other was a game ender against ATL).

They draw within a run, have a little momentum for once and then the 'pen lets it go to shit.

It hardly matters considering we haven't scored as many as 3 runs in any game this series - or scored a run off the Nats' pen in like half a season.

Two runners via consecutive one-out walks.
So whattaya think ... GiDP or back-to-back pick-offs?

... Oooh, I'm sorry, the answer was first-pitch pop-out

Good guesses FK but the answer was: swing at the first pitch after consecutive walks.

Re: IGT - Nats @ Mets - 9/15 - Gay Dame

And the final answer is: fly out with the bases loaded.

btw, that's the 8th time the Mets have faced Todd Coffey this year. They have 0 runs on 2 hits.
I think there are HS teams with better records off Mariano Rivera

Sep 15 2011 02:30 PM
Re: IGT - Nats @ Mets - 9/15 - Gay Dame

And now Pagan watches a ball drop at his feet for a double - one batter after Tejada bobbles a sure GiDP and only gets one out.
And then that's followed by a ball through an infield that was drawn in to counter the fact that they handed the Nats two outs in this inning alone.
And we won't even mention the earlier three runs scored on errors and balks, or last night's two runs which were both unearned.

This squad doesn't even remotely resemble a major league team at this point.

Terry talked for months about how much this team cared. Well after Beltran was traded, that all went away. They're a bunch of minor leaguers. And where's Sandy these days? Any thoughts from the top?

And a special "F you" on behalf of us Mets fans in the DC area.

Bay's 2nd double of the game means the Mets are at least now out-hitting Ian Desmond for the day (5-4).

It's not going to be "Haha, we got rid of Bay" type shakesups, atlhough I suppose they'll try. But there are probably 40man issues that will neccesitate trades to create flexibility. Guys like Murphy, Turner, , Tejada, Pagan, Pelfrey. (both of who will be tendered contracts. Doesn't mean they won't be traded though)

I'll take winter over summer. Hopefully Howie wasn't talking about the Islanders though.

Oh yeah, and Ian Desmond has re-caught the Mets in the hits race: 5-to-5

Very True, and oddly timing wise the Giants went into the tank when Beltran appeared.

It is a long quirky season folks.

Factoring in the literal gloom, the plunge in temperatures, the spitting rains, the caliber of opponent, the fact that I was there the night before to witness ninth-inning heartbreak and the length of the proceedings (plus the guy in the ATF cap and Army t-shirt who lectured the Mets for being a bunch of millionaires who are afraid of a little rain before he went off to ingest some alcohol, burn some tobacco and explode some firearms -- and another guy who explained loudly to all six of us in the Promenade that the Nationals would keep scoring because this way their agents would be able to get them more money), that may have been the worst Non-Collapse game i've ever been to. It was all I could do to not give Justin Turner six Schaefer points out of gratitude for ending it with a double play.

But nice to see themetfairy and dgwphotography before it all went to hell.
