Joe Robbie Forever (split from Rico Forever)

The Marlins were so inspired by the Mets' Shea Goodbye ceremonies that they're planning on having oodles of ours take a bow when Crud Bucket Stadium reverts to football for good. Here's the guest list to date:

Current and former players and coaches are scheduled to be on hand for the occasion. The list of guests currently includes Kurt Abbott, Antonio Alfonseca, Moises Alou, Alex Arias, Bruce Aven, Rickey Bones, Bobby Bonilla, Kevin Brown, Luis Castillo, Greg Colbrunn, Jeff Conine, Reid Cornelius, Andre Dawson, Alex Fernandez, Cliff Floyd, Chris Hammond, Lenny Harris, Bryan Harvey, Livan Hernandez, Charlie Hough, Charles Johnson, Josh Johnson, Rene Lachemann, Al Leiter, Mike Lowell, Josias Manzanillo, Jack McKeon, Robb Nen, Vladimir Nunez, Tony Perez, Mike Piazza, Scott Pose, Hanley Ramirez, Pat Rapp, Ivan Rodriguez, Cookie Rojas, Benito Santiago, Gary Sheffield, Julian Tavarez, Tony Taylor, Michael Tejera and Preston Wilson.

Not bolded: Charles Johnson, a paper Met for a minute in 1998; and Ricky Bones, minor league pitching instructor in the Mets chain.

I'm a little disappointed they got Josias Manzanillo to come to their stadium farewell and we didn't.

Mike Piazza?

Didn't he play about a half-dozen games for the Marlins?

Not even. Five games. He lives down there, I think. Must not be busy that afternoon.

I looked it up: Mike Piazza played five games for the Marlins, and three of them were played in St. Louis.

Reid Cornelius. I would have certainly guessed his name after 100 years.

I admire the inclusiveness. And the volume. It's like each Marlins fan in attendance gets his or her own Marlin to take home.

Presumably they pay these guys for appearances right? I wonder if that cast is getting more than the Marlins players do.

They have got to be the weirdest franchise that's ever been, at least since the Cleveland Spiders were contracted. You can dismiss them and deride them and have many laughs at their expense, but then you can't help but come back to "...but they won two World Series."

Yeah... the Mets really have to get to three before the Marlins do.

"I got Mike Redmond!"

"Um, dude, that's Mike Mordecai..."

"Shit! ....trade?"

"For Todd Dunwoody?"

"Deal!"

Re: Rico Forever: The Afterlife of Mets, 2011

This division isn't exactly weighted down with with Commissioner's Trophies*: Two from us, two from PHI, one from ATL (with two others in storage from their previous stops), none from WAS (or MON) and those two from FLA.

*Commissioner's Trophy awarded only since 1967; speaking metaphorically -- but only leaving out the Boston and Milwaukee Braves of 1914 and 1957 anyway.

Two World Series wins but no division titles; not in those WS years, not in any other season.

I kind of admire the sense of humor it takes to bring Piazza back.
Reminds me of the sign a fan displayed the first time the Piazza-Mets visited: MIKE: IT'S NOT THE SAME WITHOUT YOU

Not to mention those are the only two postseason appearances. They are still batting a thousand when it comes to postseason series.

Not to completely hijack the thread, but funniest thing about the trade of him to the Marlins is that the baseball card companies were tripping over themselves to get Piazza As A Marlin cards out on the market.

Though, I'd like a nice week layover in Miami on my LA to New York transcontinental flight!

The final score:

Joe Robbie Stadium (1993-1996)
Pro Player Park (1996)
Pro Player Stadium (1996-2005)
Dolphins Stadium (2005-2006)
Dolphin Stadium (2006-2009)
LandShark Stadium (2009-2010)
Dolphin Stadium (again) (2010)
Sun Life Stadium (2010-2011).

I loved the rationale for going from PPP to PPS. There were complaints that Pro Player Park was an insult to the tradition represented by the name Joe Robbie Stadium. So they reinserted Stadium.

Re: Joe Robbie Forever (split from Rico Forever)

if I recall it was only Landshark for baseball. So it could be Dolphin on Sunday for the Dolphins, and then Landshark on Monday for the Marlins.

I do love that Mike had only 8 career triples, yet one of them came in those five games as a Marlin.
