Some info here but no details (ie. $$). Presumably a 1-year contract again.

You feel the heat, Jose?

Sensible move.
After a bit of a rough start he's been as reliable as one can get in that sort of specialized situation.

"I'm very happy with the team here and stuff like that and wanted to come back."

I prepared his talking points for him.

this seems odd timing, but interesting anyway.

Sounds like Sandy being proactive.

One less bullpen spot to fill. Assuming long relief can be filled cheaply (Schwinden perhaps?), that's two left. And they need to be of the high-end variety.

Good on Sandy... and glad to have him back. He handled the Howards and Fielders capably, and, with southpaws hitting just .204/.232/.323 against him and striking out 5.5 times more often than they walked, he's out PedroDos-ed PedroDos (.211/.282/.297, 3.96 K/BB ratio career vs. LHB) this year.

Re: Byrdak Re-Signed for 2012

btw, Pedro-dos will have surgery (or maybe already has) and has been ruled out for the entirety of next season.
That will make it 12 years across two continents plus at least five organizations and the dude still hasn't thrown a pitch in any other ML uniform but the NYM.

Now all we need is for FA-compensation pick Michael Fullmer to work out down the road and it'll be a triple-happiness situation.
So which interviewer was it who was trying real hard during ST to get Alderson to admit he made a mistake by not re-upping P.F.?

Let's just hope he doesn't take, with Byrdak, the same bullet he dodged from the Feliciano case.

Nice story for the Byrdman. He looked like a bust after his first handful of NYM outings but really improved since and if he wants back with a 1-year deal, fine with me.

I've been kinda disheartened to see how destablizing the Rodriguez departure turned out to be but Byrdak hasn't seemed to have been affected.

I'm not sure the trade destabilized the pen so much as exposed it. Izzy had a limited amount of gas in the tank, Parnell and Beato are still works in progress, and guys like Carrasco and Igarashi just aren't any good.

If it's something like a year and $1.5M, it's not that big of a bullet. He's already taken a bigger bullet with Carrasco, but even that isn't crippling.

Oh, I agree with all that. I was just hoping that somebody would do more with the opportunity his absence created.
