Batman TV Villains (split from Guess Who Died in 2011)

Sorry, he's best known to me as Shame on Batman.

He was one of the last surviving villains from Batman (Zsa Zsa Gabor is the only one I can think of off the top of my head who is still around).

That's because crime doesn't pay.

But Julie, thank god, has nine lives.

Lee Meriweather (Catwoman #2) and Eli Wallach (Mr Freeze #2) still persist. I think John Astin (Riddler #2) also continues to reside among us.

Tallulah Bankhead / Black Widow (d.1968)

I believe this was her last-ever performance!

One of the cable networks has been running the show. As I little kid, I did not appreciate the glories of Catwoman.

Gorshin was a bad ass, especially in that first episode. They got a little silly in the second season -- well, a lot silly -- but got more back on track in the third despite being trimmed to one episode a week.

Gorshin was the only one to really play a threateningly deranged villain. Romero and Meredith were entertainingly camp, but not the least bit dark. They never did find a good Mr. Freeze. Buono was reliably amusing, but King Tut was a lame villain. And julie newmar was just sex on a stick. yummy!

the show invented alot of lame villains in season 2 and 3, while overlooking some excellent antagonists from the Batman rogue's gallery, including SCARECROW, CLAYFACE, TWO-FACE and SOLOMON GRUNDY.

Also POISON IVY made her debut in the comics around the same time as the tv show. I would've loved to see HER on that show, maybe in seasons 2 or 3. Who was a hot red-head in her 30s with a b-movie film career already behind her that could have played the part? Rhonda Fleming was probably a little long in the tooth at that point (about 10 years older than Newmar). But somebody like that, i think. Or maybe they could've just used Joan Collins and dyed her hair, instead of inventing a stupid character like "The Siren".

upon further reflection, POISON IVY could've been played by such red-heads as:
STELLA STEVENS (b.1937), who was a smoking hot beauty queen who'd done some tv and features, but nothing big at that point;
JILL ST. JOHN (b.1940), a Bond girl still doing TV, she had even been in a few of Gorshin's Riddler episodes as his sidekick;
TINA LOUISE (B.1934), Just coming off Gilligan's Island, she could've played Ivy in Season 3;
BARBARA BABCOCK (B.1937), who was doing alot of tV at that time, including GREEN HORNET episodes

Of course, i'd have loved to see Jane Fonda do it, but with her making CAT BALLOU, ANY WEDNESDAY, BAREFOOT IN THE PARK and (sigh) BARBARELLA during these years, she was a little busy.

So, i'd have to give the "shwing" vote to Stella, the poison ivy of my dreams.

can you split off this whole "Batman villains" thing into its own thread?

Re: Guess who died in 2011

Pick your Poison (Ivy):

Samantha Eggar (b. 1939)

Jill St. John (b. 1940) Might be disqualified on logical and continuity grounds because she appeared in Batman Episode #1 as one of the Riddler's moles/underlings/henchwomen.

Ann Margret (b. 1941) and Shirley MacLaine (b. 1934). The two redheads had achieved Hollywood stardom by the mid-60's. Still, the guest villain slot on Batman was a coveted role.

Re: Guess who died in 2011

Tina Louise spent her entire time on THE island cock teasing any man or primate within sniffing distance of her sweet sweet pheromones.

And she had to, what with Mary Anne and her heartland charm (and tight shorts) in tow.

Still, I'd like to have seen her as Poison Ivy in an episode where she, uh, slides down the bat pole.

I had Ann-Margret, Samantha Eggar and Shirley Maclaine on my short list also, but, like Jane Fonda, they were all in the early bloom of successful film careers and were not the type of actresses that would've done a recurring guest villain role on a tv series, even BATMAN, so i didn't mention them (and only mentioned Fonda because of my particular obsession). Even Stella Stevens was probably a stretch at that point. Yes, those were coveted roles, for over-the-hill b-actors and almost-but-never-wases. Not for movie stars on the rise. Especially not by season 3, which would have been when a POISON IVY episode could've been shot, since the character was just introduced in the comics in 1966. by that point, the show had lost its cache.

As for Jill St. John, she wouldn't have been the only actress to play 2 different villains on the show. Ann Baxter played Zelda the Great in season 1 and Olga, Queen of the Cossacks in season 3.

upon further reflection, i really think it was Tina Louise's shot to extend her 15 minutes.

Tina Louise would have been pretty much ideal, but she already had hangups over Gilligan ruining what she thought would be a bigger run. I was also thinking Lulu.
