First game October 8th. just inked Tavaras to a long term deal, which was nice to see. The team should be able to score at least this season.

Because I have FiOS I can't watch MSG in HD so the only NHL I have seen is on the NHL Network and Versus, hockey in SD is just awful.

Don't be too shocked. It's not a technology thing, it's an inter-company feud thing. By Cablevision not offering the Cablevision-owned MSG properties (Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Knicks) in HD to competitors like Verizon it encourages NYC-area sports fans to opt for Cablevision instead, although I'm sure they're claiming it's a cost containment thing for their loyal customers.

No, thinking about it I shouldn't be shocked. Half the time the the Islanders get relegated to the SD "tvguide" station anyway, if two of the Knicks/Rangers/Devils are playing. Just another draw back to FIOS (not that I was happy with Cablevision either)

Islanders destroying the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight, 5-1 with 6 minutes to play. John Tavaras (born 1990, yikes) has 4 points in the first period, 2 goals and 2 assists, although Howie thinks one of the assists should be a goal because the super slow mo suggests he deflected it in for the Hat Trick.

desperately needed a win. Got one tonight against the Canadiens, although they did almost let it get away. DiPietro had to come in to replace the injured Nobokov.

real battle for NY going on tonight. Rangers up 3-1 on the Islanders unfortunately. They appear to be a much better team, with the only caveat being that Taveras appears to be the best player on the ice.

In the current NHL - as well as for most of the last two dozen years - the last [fill in the blank here] has appeared to be the much better team while playing the Islanders.
