First of eight in a row that will prevent the Mets' third consecutive losing season. And to do it, here are the fellows who will take on Jaime Garcia, the starter from the last Mets' victory at Busch Stadium:

Jose Reyes - SS
Angel Pagan - CF
David Wright - 3B
Lucas Duda - RF
Nick Evans - 1B
Willie Harris - LF
Ronny Paulino - C
Justin Turner - 2B
Chris Schwinden - RHP

FYI, the seventh-most recent Mets win at Busch Stadium was Game 4 of the 2006 NLCS.

If memory serves, we also swept the season-opening series in St. Louis in 2007, which means we won 3 out of 9 games in St. Louis in the '08-'10 seasons.

Yup. Swept three en route to a 4-0 start and all the division titles we could carry into the new ballpark. Ah, early April 2007...

IGT - 9/21 in StL

It's the 2nd inning and this team has already embarrassed itself several times over.

Well, does it ever matter?

I don't know who is watching, but whatever career Schwinden has was saved by DJ Willie Harris tonight, making a diving, bases-loaded, two-out catch to stop the Cards from breaking it open after it was already 3-0. The Mets came back and know lead 4-3.

I-Go-Schwinden-in-Water makes it through six, which I wouldn't have bet on early. He owes Harris some chocolates.

Of course, Duda and Paulino owe Schwinden some chocolates.

Oh, man. Terry's over-playing the matchup game himself.

And if you're scoring at home --- and I hope you are --- Herrera exits after one pitch.

Terry continues to over-manage. I thought that Beato had a tired arm.

Two out, nobody on, Wright up, and LaRussa double-switches. For fuck's sake.

Yes. If you're going to play the game it matters how you play.

why do we have two threads?

Because I didn't see the first one

5 of the 6 StL runs today came after two-out and nobody on.

Yup!
We've just given them two innings of that while they've handed (and I do mean handed) us one.

Send your five defensive replacements after that ball, Tony.

What shouldn't have happened is that Terry shouldn't have panic-pulled Batista in the seventh with two out and a guy on first. Enough.

Re: IGT 9/21/2011: NYM @ STL -- .500 Or Not

Well, what you've missed is that Collins is trying to address his bullpen's failures by stretching them --- looking to use five or six guys to get three innings out of, rather than three (or two! or one!). All it's gotten him is a greater likelihood of the game being in the hands of that one guy who's got nothing but a serving platter that night, plus more tired pitchers the next day.
