Penultimate IGT - 9/26 Reds at Mets

Frayed Knot
Sep 27 2011 07:05 AM

One last try for a win for me as the season will be over in about 31 hours.
Well there's that, plus I just wanted to weasel a chance to use the word penultimate in a sentence.

Tonight's matchup sees HR-King Bronson Arroyo (there's a McDonalds-like sign over his locker saying: '44 served this season') going for the Reds
He'll be facing Chris Capuano assuming that the BoSox don't get super desperate and request him to be shipped to Baltimore sometime today. Call Fed-Ex: When your pitcher absolutely positively has to be there by 6 PM

If they're still interested I'm listening.

Already down 2-1 here after one, ladies and gents. Wright drove in Tejada to get one back after Capuano gave the Mets a Red-friendly first inning.

And now the Herrera for the lefty crowd gets a long double (should have been a triple and almost was a HR) for their trouble.

Not even Wayne's most inane attempt at making a "I know baseball history" remark. While talking about the Cards and Astros game, he brought up the rivalry between the two teams back in the early to mid 2000s, as if it's been a relevant part of the game since 2006, the last time the Astros finished 2nd or better in the Central.

What's contact going to do for you? There were two outs. It's a guy who's hit .239 against lefties over the course of his career versus a guy who's hit .330.

Amazing what you can accomplish when you:
a) use the bunt as an offensive weapon rather than a passive strategy
b) are able to make actual bat-to-ball contact when bunting

Re: Penultimate IGT - 9/26 Reds at Mets

My last game of the year. If this was the last game seeing Reyes in a Mets uniform, it was a hell of a way for Jose to go out. Just about everything you could want from the Jose Reyes experience:

-Exciting extra-base hits...check
-Stolen base...check
-Antagonizing the pitcher on the bases...check
-Highlight-reel defensive play...check
-A little extra panache (the curtain-call)...Check!

Lots of love for Jose from the crowd tonight too. You could almost see him gain confidence and play better when there were spontaneous Jose-Jose-Jose chants going.

As for the rest of the game? I suppose, given the season, that one final kick to the gonads was in order. Still can't really believe what happened. The scoreboard even put up the "Mets Win!!" graphic for about 5-10 seconds.
