One glance at the CBP masses and I'm rapidly rooting for a meteor.

Are any of those 7 still rooting for the MFPs?

Gwreck Oct 01 2011 03:16 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
Berkman with a 3 run homer in the 1st inning off Halladay starts things off right.

New York abstains...courteously.

As if Jimmy Rollins would ever be close to a batting title.
|
Frayed Knot Oct 01 2011 05:10 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
|
Why, because Rollins is pretty much saying what half this forum said even earlier, that the better way to win a batting title is to do so on the field? Well Lohse certainly came apart in a hurry, huh? And now Rep-eyechart-sky throws a bunch of fat on the fire.

as opposed to Reyes, who won it by bribing the official scorer to give him fake points? Did most of his hits come 'off' the field? ha. hope everyone enjoyed Phillies last win of the season.

Yes that's it. That's clearly what I meant.

Carpenter was lifted for a pinch hitter in the 4th. Cardinals got 3 that inning but the third out was at the plate so they're still down 1, 4-3.

Cards win game two which is a very nice surprise. Let's go Redbirds.

I listened to this one flipping between 1700 and 700 am both which are ESPN stations in SoCal, but I'm not sure which areas. But sometimes one had reception, sometimes the other. Left Vegas at 4 ( 7 Mets standard Time) picked up the end of the broadcast of the Brewers, which then cut to Phily mid interview with the catcher (not even mid interview, it was like "How'd it feel as a rookie getting those key hits?...and the pitch by Lee..) and thanks in part to Tony LaRussa's pitching changes, the game lasted almost the entire 5.5 hour trip, ending about 10 miles outside of San Diego. Excuse me while I go give Petco park the finger for not hosting a Mets @ San Diego NLDS while i'm here. Clearly it's the park's fault.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Oct 03 2011 12:06 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
give Petco a big finger for me too, for having a stupid name.

Grab lunch at the Tin Fish down the block after you give the stadium the finger.

I'd suggest decification to the park behind center, but I'm sure it has tight survelience. Though you could quickly purchase a puppy and have it do the deed for you!

Dennis Eckersley's analysis of this game "that's baseball".

Ceetar Oct 04 2011 06:34 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
I did pick the Phillies to get bounced by the Brewers anyway, but was pulling for Louis here. Still hopeful.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Oct 04 2011 06:42 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
Cards brought the tying or go-ahead run to the plate about 10 times in the last few innings, seemed like, they had their chances.

Good pitcher's duel with Cardinals up 1-0 after 6. Furball triple in the first led to the only run.

Which shows two things: a) that the ownership was typically imitative and clueless and b) that even given the invitation, the fans never adopted such a small townish ploy

Is that the Ryan Howard whose $125M contract extension begins next year-- the one whose deal will last longer than Chase Utley is playing professional baseball?
|
Frayed Knot Oct 07 2011 09:25 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
On the one hand MLB along with TBS/FOX can't be happy that NYC and Philly are out of the mix.

FK, I'll raise that one better. After the rise of the Homer Hanky with the 1987 Twins, the 1988 response was the K Hanky, featuring Bill Gallo illustrations of Doc, Cone, Sid and Darling, handed out during the NLCS.

And, once again, the indifference of NY fans turned that contrived promo into a one-shot deal rather than an annoying and ongoing "tradition".

Fman99 Oct 08 2011 08:32 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
I hate those fucking towels. At least Philly fans had something to cry in and/or wrap Ryan Howard's pulpy Achilles up with.
|
bmfc1 Oct 08 2011 09:13 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
Howard out for the entire first half of '12 and maybe the whole season, according to Rotoworld. Damn shame.
|
Gwreck Oct 08 2011 09:42 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
ESPN had it at 6-9 months which could be anything from April to June for a return.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Oct 08 2011 09:52 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
I had my achilles broken and surgically repaired and missed 11 months of hard physical activity.

Benjamin Grimm Oct 09 2011 05:45 AM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
And just when Howard is about to start his five-year, $125 million contact extension.

And that kind of injury can't be good on such a large body.
|
Frayed Knot Oct 12 2011 07:26 PM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
MLB.com -- Ryan Howard had surgery Wednesday morning in Baltimore to repair a completely torn Achilles tendon in his left leg. Foot and ankle specialist Mark Myerson performed the surgery and also administered a PRP injection. The Phillies said the surgery was successful, and general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement, "It's going to be five to six months from the surgery until he can play at his accustomed level."

Five to six months is March or April, no?
|
Ceetar Oct 13 2011 07:42 AM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |

yeah. that's better than the 6-9 months they were originally projecting. if it's 6 months to 100%, he could actually miss no time..
|
Benjamin Grimm Oct 13 2011 07:50 AM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
That's assuming no "setbacks". Remember, we were originally supposed to see Johan Santana by around July 1.
|
Ceetar Oct 13 2011 07:54 AM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
|
That was always extremely tentative though. Setbacks are always a possibility, but he's not a pitcher or a basestealer/premium defender. Of course, a little nerve tweak kept Ike out all year, so..
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Oct 13 2011 07:56 AM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |

Yeah I wouldn't count on that. I'll bet a beer he won't play for the Phillies before June.
|
metirish Oct 13 2011 07:58 AM Re: I.S.T. - Cards & Phils -- NLDS 2011 |
I guess one worry going forward for him when he gets back is the pressure exerted from swinging the bat?, as Phillies go I like Howard , seems like a decent sort, all the best to him.
