Before the long cold winter.

Ceetar Sep 19 2011 02:49 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
anything, as long as it's baseball. Would be nice to see Duda finish above .300 and Bay get at least 5 more XBHs.

Edgy DC Sep 19 2011 02:51 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
Them's all would be good.

I feel like we've built this thing up so much that I'd rather it come in a super relevant context, but maybe it'd be appropriate for it to happen when only like 7 die-hard Mets fans are actually watching.

I want to see the young ones finish strong and go to Spring Training with good vibes.

themetfairy Sep 19 2011 03:22 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
I'll go with the no-hitter - that would be a nice way to close out the season.
|
metirish Sep 19 2011 03:24 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
Let's keep it practical , we're the Mets, we don't do no hitters.

My Mets predictions, from the 2011 thread:
currently tied for 4th with Nats
currently 73-80
yeah, got those covered. so i'm hoping they do better than 3-6 in the last nine, and finish ahead of the Nats, to exceed my expectations, such as they were. Isn't that all you can ever hope, that your team exceeds your expectations?

I'm hoping no one else breaks their arms/legs/tendons/anuses in any way that would impact the 2012 season.
|
bmfc1 Sep 19 2011 08:04 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
Finish in 3d, ahead of those pieces of shit scumbags, the Washington Nationals.

My hopes in order would be:
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Sep 20 2011 01:03 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
Hot finishes for guys like Herrera, Duda, Turner and Tejada, both for what they mean in themselves and to increase potential trade value.
|
Benjamin Grimm Sep 20 2011 01:16 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
And a hot finish for Jason Bay, in the hopes that it will set his mind at ease over the winter and set him up for a strong start next year. (Who knows? It could happen!)
|
Ceetar Sep 20 2011 01:21 PM Re: Nine Games Left |

good one. I'll settle for no 0-47 for Bay. 5+ XBH would be nice, but as so would just hitting the ball hard a lot and not looking fooled for any stretch of time.

One game with all three neophyte callups seeing action just so I can write this tongue-twisting headline:
|
Ashie62 Sep 21 2011 01:19 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
Beyond the 9 games I hope Pelfrey is non-tendered..with prejudice.
|
Edgy DC Sep 21 2011 01:25 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
That just means more Chris Schwinden to me.
|
Ceetar Sep 21 2011 01:26 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
There is roughly zero chance Pelfrey is non-tendered anyway. same with Pagan.
|
Benjamin Grimm Sep 21 2011 01:34 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
I may be wrong, but I think it's higher than zero.
|
Edgy DC Sep 21 2011 01:38 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
Fangraphs pegged his value at $11.5 million in 2010, and $3.7 million thus far in 2011. Give him the benefit of the doubt that he gets that up to $3.9 million by the end of the season and that comes to an average of $7.65 million between the two.
|
Ceetar Sep 21 2011 01:41 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
Pelfrey will be starting next year. Sure, maybe it's not for the Mets, but he'll be starting. Why would the Mets just let another team have him?
|
Benjamin Grimm Sep 21 2011 01:55 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
They would do it if they felt that his salary was more than they wanted to spend, that's why.
|
Ceetar Sep 21 2011 02:03 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
they don't have any other options. The closest we got is Schwinden, and I doubt Alderson's seen enough out of him to expect he'll provide the value and innings that that 5million provides.
|
Benjamin Grimm Sep 21 2011 02:21 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
They have until next April to come up with other options. Schwinden's not the only possibility. Sometimes teams get players from outside their organization. It's been known to happen.
|
Ceetar Sep 21 2011 02:26 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
|
and I'm sure they can include Pelfrey in that subset of guys they trade if they get suitable upgrades. But they need pitchers, so I doubt just letting value walk out of the door is part of that plan. Same reason they didn't just release K-Rod when he got to 54.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Sep 21 2011 02:41 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
I don't think they let Pelfrey walk, either.
|
Ceetar Sep 21 2011 02:50 PM Re: Nine Games Left |

I don't think Cap will be inexpensive. And I think he'll be looking for a two(plus) year deal. Don't know if he'll get it, but I think he's shown himself healthy and able. I wouldn't mind keeping him though, but ultimately I think I'm hoping Sandy trades for a fairly above average starter. I think he's got some pieces that need to be traded, roster space wise, and he hinted at that yesterday. What do they need more than pitching?

YES! High-stakes gambling happening.

Benjamin Grimm Sep 21 2011 08:22 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
How can we ever prove whether or not there was a "zero chance?"

Ceetar Sep 21 2011 08:39 PM Re: Nine Games Left |
nevermind roughly zero.
