Great Mets Moments From 2011

Give us your pick for a great Mets moment from 2011. That's a "moment", a play, an ovation, a moment in time, but not a game or a win ("the Mets score 6 in the 9th to beat a desperate Cardinals team" is not a moment; "Harris drives in the winning runs as part of a 6 run 9th...." is a moment).

I always find this more fun when limited to one per person.

This past Saturday against the Phils. In the seventh inning Little Solo called the Val Pascucci HR. The look on his face when Val went deep was priceless.

I've never met MGIM but I'm guessing that his will be when Acosta threw a ball to his daughter.

I didn't actually see this - was at my GFs apartment and following on Gameday because she doesn't get SNY - but Jason Bay breaking the no-grand-slam streak in the 14-3 Tigers game is the 2011 Metly moment that sticks in my mind.

The only game I attended this season was a June 2nd afternoon tilt against the Pirates. It was the first time I took my 3-year-old son to see a baseball game. The Mets went down by seven runs early in the game but rallied for a 9-8 victory. In the ninth inning, with the Pirates down to their last out, my son started chanting "Lets Go Mets!" And then other people in our section joined in the chant. That was my favorite moment.

June 25th in Arlington. Early in the game, the scoreboard commented that Lucas Duda had two hits in a game recently and that it was only the second time in his career that he had done so. We interpreted that as a backhanded compliment about Lucas' abilities.

Fun Friday in Pittsburgh with the Mets near their height of their powers: Gee throws gooseggs, Reyes homers, Muffy & Pagan triple.

Favorite in-game moment: "My daughter was keeping score, and we discussed strategy amid the glorious scoring. With men on third and second and first base open and two out, I explained that Angel Pagan would get nothing to hit and probably walk because the Tigers would rather pitch to Jason Bay, who, I explained, is a bum. Daddy looked wise when Pagan did, in fact, walk. And he looked like a dunce when Bay ripped one down the left field line, just around the foul pole and into the stands for a grand slam." Post-game moment: Note my sweet Eddie Murray jersey, which NOW has the appropriate Bill Shea memorial patch! (Thank you!)

June 2, Pelfrey's Pelfrey, Mets are down 7-0 to Pirates in the third inning at Citi Field where I convince myself, "It's not over."

Me too. And not because of the breaking of the streak. I was watching it live, and the ball was one of those deep flies that hugs the foul pole. Bay stood at the plate, his body contorted, his heart in his throat, desperately wanting that ball to be fair. And when it was, he went blank. No fist pump, no smile. Instant stoicism as he started trotting around the bases. It was a very memorable image.

I'm sure I am guilty of what you are talking about Grim , having said that I don't take stuff like that said in the heat of the moment all that seriously. I for one don't care for being told in general how to act as a fan either.
