This is inspired by the Darryl Strawberry Award thread. I was going to post it there but I didn't want to clutter that thread with a big clunky chart.

Beltran solidified rightfield as almost nobody has since Strawberry left.

Saying it was better is like saying the patient was moved from the emergency room to life support.

Please. As you can see from reading up the chart, it can and does get far worse.

I wouldn't have guessed 2004 as the homerunniest Met starting outfield ever, but Kablammeron with 36 in center helped, flanked by Floyd and Hidalgo.

Seven outfield homers from an ephemeral Eric Valent that year, with six more coming as a firstbaseman or pinch-hitter.

I'd have definitely kept these numbers a secret and quizzed this material. What a goldmine!

Cedeno not yet back in '01. That was the year of Matt Lawton. Benny was still here, Timo played himself out of a starting role and Darryl Hamilton, Mark Johnson, Alex Escobar and Joe McEwing were among those who got their reps.

How did we lose at all I wonder now while we were sporting such fine men in the outfield?

Mets 82-80 that year. About 45 of those wins came from teams that realized they were overmatched and forfeited.
