Everyone off tomorrow except Fwife. Going to drag the kids all over the place and try and fit a nap in there at some point as well.

Everyone on down here. D-Dad is working, my office is open (although I don't work most Mondays. But if I did, I'd be working) and MK has school.

It's hard for me to imagine people being off for Columbus Day. As a holiday, I consider it on par with Arbor Day. Needless to say, life goes on the same as any other Monday.

Off! And we closed at noon for Yom Kippur (sundown was early
at the office) so I got a much needed 3 1/2 weekend.

My daughter still beds down after lunch most days for about two hours. Once I get her sleeping, I'll set Fboy up with a kids' movie downstairs and that will buy me about 80 minutes of shut eye.

Believe me, between the nap, and the morning run I'm about to embark on (Fwife doesn't leave till 8:45 or so on Mondays), and coffee, I need LOTS of refueling to get through a weekday solo with these guys. They have reservoirs of energy.

I feel you, but naps just ain't an option for me any more. (Maybe because neither of them do.)

Either way -- on. Fake holidays like this are big in college admissions, because they're huge campus tour days.

Off but catching up on work at home.

We've totally outclassed all our neighbors as far as Columbus Day decorations.

That's because you don't live in the northeast where many among the greater concentration of Italian descendants consider it more a celebration of their ethnicity than anything else.
Just the thought of the shit-storm which would befall whichever politician/council to suggest that maybe such a 'minor holiday' should no longer be considered a paid day-off would be substantial enough to ensure it'll never be brought up.

The Columbus Day Parade is also the traditional start of the political season in New York.

This descendant of Italian immigrants hasn't had Columbus Day off in decades. Today is just another day at the office...

Yeah, I haven't had an office-closed day off on Columbus Day since the late 1980s. My kids have the day off from school, but very few offices seem to be closed. Rush-hour traffic this morning was only a little bit lighter than normal.

This...although, while I am working today, I receive an extra personal day to use this year.

A four mile run, Kmart, Wegmans, the vacuum repair store, park #1, home for macaroni and cheese lunch, nap (90 minutes for Fgirl, 70 minutes for yours truly), cartoons, park #2, chicken parm, baths, and now, finally, Monday Night Football and a vodka-themed refreshment.

I got tired just reading that.
Also -I learned that today is Thanksgiving day in Canada.
I wonder how you stuff a walrus.

I don't care who we honor so long as we get the day off. Can we repopularize Columbus/Indigenous Peoples/Native American/Immigrants Day please?
