Some fictional characters close to my heart also had a 50th Anniversary this year.

I'm not sure what's the most amazing part, the total itself, the fact that Wilt shot .875 from the stripe, or that the Knicks guarded him with (among others) a guy named Greep.

How about them throwing four guys out there with names starting in "Bu-"?

I'm amazed that the losing team has 147 points. I don't follow the NBA too closely but you don't see many scores in excess of 120 points these days even for winning teams, do you?

Wilt knew how to celebrate a big night, too.

That's what smudged type will do for you. The player was Jumpin' Johnny Green. And there couldn't have been a more appropriate nickname. The 6'5" green would wow the crowd in pre-game drills by jumping up and pulling down a coin from the top of the backboard. (Somebody used a ladder to put it there. IIRC, he averaged over 12 rebounds a game that year.

The one I remember best was Dave Budd, the "incredible shrinking man". They drafted him as a 6'10" center. By his second year, he was listed on the program at 6'8". Later, he was listed at 6'6". But I saw him win a jump ball from Wilt in a game at the old MSG.

Its a shame that the record- setting game wasn't on tv and I'm not even sure if any film of the game exists.
