Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow 2011-12

NOAA says 6-12" in northern Westchester! I'll believe it when
I'm shoveling it. I don't ever remember there being snow on the
ground for Halloween ... maybe once when I was a kid.

Re: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow 2011-12

I work in Valhalla and the forecast was rain/snow with little to no accumulation, Yorktown Heights a bit further north it was 1 to 3 inches, a girl I work with lives in Orange county and they were forecast for 6 to 12.

Here in the Bronx rain/snow, certainly it's cold enough.

Good weather is anything you don't have to shovel.
They're predicting 8-12 inches of heavy, wet snow up here in the Connecticut hills.

Re: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow 2011-12

We are just getting some wet rainish snow right now. First snows are always exciting, but I don't like snow when the leaves are still so beautiful.
Plus I am still wearing my surgical boot so walking around outside might be icky.

Starting to stick a little here. Snowing hard, I think the rain went away, although the snow I brushed off the car was realllllly wet. It's pretty.

We're getting a ton of it! It started much earlier than
expected, before noon, it never rained like they predicted.

Very wet, very heavy snow blowing here. Accumulating on trees that still have green leaves and breaking their branches. Soccer and Halloween parade canceled.

It's now snowing in the nation's capital.

We're missing out on eventually close to a foot at home, per the latest report. Fucking crazy.

I remember once when I was a kid we had flurries in October. It was cool. If I was a kid I would think he was awesome. I'm just glad I don't have to shovel it (yet).

Re: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow 2011-12

It's really really bad out there. Or at least, it was, as of 4 hours ago when we got home and it hasn't stopped snowing.

I live on a normal suburban street/deadend in North Jersey and driving down the street to the parking lot felt like driving through a forest because all the trees are leaning and brushing the top of the car. I saw someone with a moving truck..Tuesday is the first so probably thought they'd move there stuff in early..bad luck there.

It's really quiet out..except for the sounds of tree-branches breaking.

These are the power lines leading into our set of apartments. We still have power, but I'm not sure how long that'll last..especially if the wind kicks in.

You know, when we were house hunting in 1995, that house was vacant and on the market. And it had a Metsian-significant house number, which made it really tempting.

There have been a lot of times over the past sixteen years that we've been grateful that we chose our house instead. Yesterday being one of those times.

We got 5-6 inches, lost power for 14 hours. We did make the Halloween Hudson Cruise, where my grandson and might-as-well-be granddaughter won prizes as an ATM machine and a gumball machine. Snow was just starting as the cruise ended.

Orange and Rockland, our provider, says they had 87,000 without power, and figured on having 90% of them back up by Wednesday midnight. Luckily we got back on at around 4 AM this morning. Last night would have been our last night staying there without heat...would have found somebody to stay with.

Re: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow 2011-12

we've been extremely fortunate - only got a dusting, and didn't lose power. We also didn't lose power during Irene... (these two facts make me very afraid for our next storm...)

I have many friends who got absolutely buried in Litchfield county - most of them have a power on ETA of sunday at the earliest...

Re: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow 2011-12

CT really got hammered, apparently. Some of my high schools have already lost nine school days to weather -- first Irene, now this -- and it's barely November. Goodbye, Spring Break. (And hello, admissions visits into December because I have to reschedule twelve schools.)

Re: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow 2011-12

We just got our power back around 7 PM today(Friday). Found out when I got home.
It went out 3PM on Saturday and has been off ever since.
We got hit with over 14 inches of heavy wet snow that pulled down power lines all the way back to the production facilities. Many roads were impassible for the work crews to re-string lines.

Our town was just on the 10PM NY channel 5 news and our first selectman (we're too small to have a mayor) has been interviewed several times on WCBS NY radio this week. We're the last town in Fairfield County, CT South of Litchfield County which someone mentioned.(Not sure in this thread) The town still has 43% of residents without power.

There were emergency generators installed at the High School, where they gave out water (You can't flush your toilets if the water comes from a well that requires electricity), provided hot meals and hot showers.

I'm now going to (you should forgive the expression) plow through the posts I missed during the week and will be catching up over the next couple of days. I work tomorrow and have a lot of cleanup of downed trees and limbs around my house to work on this weekend.
