YouTube song stuff

There are websites that will convert a YouTube video to an mp3. If, for the sake of argument, you were to use one of them to convert a song to your own mp3, would you come under the radar of the download police?

I would say that would fall under piracy law jurisdictions.

Especially if the sound was something created by someone with the purpose of being on YouTube (video blog, clip of a show or movie (that already can be looked at as being infringement) or whatever).

There is a site like that, and I've done it. I have the link bookmarked in my other computer, so I'll get it to you.

I had actually found the site -- but thanks. I was just curious -- I know it's piracy, but, theoretically, if one wanted to do it, would it be traceable piracy?

Ooo, can you message me the site too? I've been looking to create a ringtone from the music behind a now-defunct website that currently lives only on youtube. Most of the services advertised seem shady and it'd be good to go with one I know works.

Thanks!!

Mole, from what I understand anything is potentially traceable, though you can complicate matters by working from behind a proxy or other sources. All of these services will likely require the use of javascripts which can do a lot of things. The main issue as I see it would be whether a copyright claimant or (far more likely) their representatives would use this particular avenue to go after piracy. There's always a risk, even if it's a small one. Probably doesn't answer your question, but there you go anyway.

Oh, and of course if the mp3 is delivered via email it's that much easier to trace its destination back to a guy or gal behind a monitor.

The kind of stuff I like is the kind of stuff no one really cares about tracing anyway.
