Came up directly from AA along with Daniel Murphy and asked together to nail down leftfield somehow. Murphy flourished, then didn't, then kinda did. Evans never found his groove. Omar told us of the latent power that would come. And maybe it still will. Rubbery good looks, but usually with a tinge of sadness. Nick's disappointments spanned three managerial tenures. He now heads out to Pittsburgh and the prettiest park in the majors.

Three doubles in a nationally televised game vs. the Rockies in his big league debut in 2008, saving Willie's job for a few weeks at least. Up and down so often his No. 6 jersey was re-issued to three other players during his tenure (Abraham Nunez, Trot Nixon, Ramon Martinez), quite an accomplishment.

Made a sensational stretch at first in the game that ended with Wright's only walkoff homer to date, off Heath Bell. Total "who?" befuddlement on my part when he was called up for the aforementioned game at Colorado. Lingering befuddlement about why the Amazin' Avenue types dwelt on him so hard. Yeah, he should have gotten more of a chance. But y'know...he's Nick Evans. Give it a rest.

I remember seeing him in the AA Eastern League All-Star game a couple of years ago. He always seemed likable, but never seemed to reach his full potential in the majors. I did decide last season that he was our most photogenic Met. That and a Metrocard will get you on the subway....

Fboy and I saw him hit a two run double at this game, in what ended up being the difference in a 3-2 victory over St. Louis. Notable for being our first trip to Citi Field, and my first meeting of themetfairy and G-Fafif as well. More notable by the fact that it was the same day as Michael Jackson's death, which for some ungodly reason took precedence over a Mets victory.

Sorta had a Mitch Gaylord thing going --- handsome and bratty, with a nameless discontent that keeps him too aloof to fully sublimate his atheticism in the team, or any cause higher than himself and his demons. Was he truly petulant... or just misunderstood? Maybe he'd've done better if, when he came to the plate, we played the music of Mr. Mister, Andy Taylor, Stevie Nicks, Graham Nash, John Parr, INXS.

Maybe he would have seen pitches better had he kept his eye off the ball, and instead focused on a fixed point somewhere in the distance, in the magic-hour setting sun.
