CLASSIC ROCK CHAMPIONSHIP: Target Round!
John Cougar Lunchbucket Nov 20 2011 07:12 PM |
OK, I've given this some thought and figure with 1000 songs out there, this should just be a free-for-all and so we don't run out of time, no picking order is necessary.

That movie was a bit slow at times, but I liked it and it had a great '70-ish soundtrack that managed to make the likes of 'Hurdy Gurdy' and 'Easy to be Hard' sound really creepy.

All the Young Girls Love Alice to be specific. I wouldn't have gotten that one if given 1,043 guesses. Haven't even heard that song in many years.

No it's not. It's All the Girls Love Alice. Definitely All the Girls Love Alice.

No guessed songs yet, as far as I can tell.

'Waterloo Sunset' turns up at #844 -- so how is that scored? Or is it even scored at all? Not sure how this 'target round' is supposed to work.

closest to 1000 gets zero points, everyone else gets points for how much further they are. lowest score wins.

I think unranked songs automatically eliminate you from this contest.

so... how did we do with this one?

Beats me. I don't even know the rules. You won, OK?

metsmarathon Nov 30 2011 10:03 AM Re: CLASSIC ROCK CHAMPIONSHIP: Target Round! |
sweet! i, too, favor any scoring schema whereby i can be determined hte winner. even if it requires the use of imaginary numbers.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Nov 30 2011 10:56 AM Re: CLASSIC ROCK CHAMPIONSHIP: Target Round! |
I was kinda hoping everyone would score themselves.
|
metsmarathon Nov 30 2011 12:18 PM Re: CLASSIC ROCK CHAMPIONSHIP: Target Round! |
i might be missing a song or two, but likely not. if you got an uncharted song, you scored a 144 for that song. every other song was scored as the distance from that pick to its target. this might not be the most equitable way to score the 1000s, but i don't feel like overthinking it.

Tequila Sunrise (my 750 pick) charted at 980, which moves me substantially up the list, but not enough to catch FMan.

What was I thinking with Tom Sawyer?
|
Edgy DC Nov 30 2011 01:35 PM Re: CLASSIC ROCK CHAMPIONSHIP: Target Round! |
In what lousy heterocentric world are we wallowing when "Suffragette City" isn't one of the top 1043 classic rawk songs of all time?
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Nov 30 2011 01:39 PM Re: CLASSIC ROCK CHAMPIONSHIP: Target Round! |
|
Tom Sawyer is one of those growers. If batmags database goes back far enough it would reveal that that song got very little attention from anyone but Rush fans upon its release, while Big Radio preferred Limelight. Those positions gradually reversed to the point where TS is probably Rush's top scorer today. PS, thanks for the scoring MM. And congrats to Fman, that was fine sniper work.

If I'd flipped my 500 and 750, I'd have swept both bronzes.

Woo hoo! I won the real contest, that other one was bullshit.
