CLASSIC ROCK CHAMPIONSHIP: Target Round!

OK, I've given this some thought and figure with 1000 songs out there, this should just be a free-for-all and so we don't run out of time, no picking order is necessary. So if you're in the contest give me three (3) songs you think will come closest to 500, 750 and 1,000 in the countdown, in that order. I'll come up with some stupid way to score this round and/or take suggestions but would be inclined to figure this to be the Intercontinental belt to the main contest's World Championship. I suppose if you think it would be correct you could pick a song already taken or to be taken in the main round but try to stay off duplicate picks in this round. closest to 1000 gets zero points, everyone else gets points for how much further they are. lowest score wins. so if i guessed song 800, and you guessed song 900, i would score 100 points, while you have none. if batmags listed a song that is unranked, well, he scores one worse than had he guessed stairway to heaven as his #1000 song. ditto for 750 and 500. that seems unfair to do for unranked songs though. maybe assign all unranked songs a ranking of either 1300 or 1500 - i'm not sure which one would be more better.

I think unranked songs automatically eliminate you from this contest. Then, distance from target to song, lowest score wins.

sweet! i, too, favor any scoring schema whereby i can be determined hte winner. even if it requires the use of imaginary numbers.

I was kinda hoping everyone would score themselves. Looks as though my 1000 pick (Sunny Afternoon) and 750 pick (Beautiful Girls) didn't rank at all, but I was in the neighborhood at 500 (Jet Airliner 566). So In the 500 race I score a 66. I'm winning as far as I can tell

i might be missing a song or two, but likely not. if you got an uncharted song, you scored a 144 for that song. every other song was scored as the distance from that pick to its target. this might not be the most equitable way to score the 1000s, but i don't feel like overthinking it. our winner appears to be fman, who won the 750 round with an 18 song miss on tales of brave ulysses. me, i suck, with two apparent misses. i still think walk of life might be hiding out htere in the countdown, but don't feel like looking all that hard. If batmags database goes back far enough it would reveal that that song got very little attention from anyone but Rush fans upon its release, while Big Radio preferred Limelight. If I'd flipped my 500 and 750, I'd have swept both bronzes.
