Memories of Dale Thayer

Only the second Dale in Mets History, and the first since 19-freakin'-79.

Had a decent 10 innings, which you think would leave Hank Hill few opportunities to say "Dammit, Day-el." Pretty hard, though, to give up four runs in 10 1/3 innings and manage to go 0-3.

Dammit, Day-el!

Even better, the Mets went 0-11 in games he pitched. That is one support-lacking mop-up pitcher.

Dammit again, Day-el!

Also, wore two differmint numbers:

Dammit to all heck, Day-el!

Wow. This could be the first time I've seen the name of a guy who played for the Mets since I've become a fan (mid nineties) and not recognized it at all.

So that's my new memory of Dale Thayer... I remember the day that Wilpon fucked up the organization enough that I just didn't care enough to watch most of August/September and I'll remember Thayer as the symbol of that.

FUCK YOU, WILPON! (Those 3 words never get old)

I barely noticed we had him. I doubt I'll remember enough to miss him.

Never made me feel like dancing. And those "Muppet Show" mime routines were more creepy than amusing.

Well, he came up initially in May and June.

Even looking at his pictures I don't remember him, sorry Dale, the name I vaguely recall.

Great, so my memory is just going!

Let's not let silly things like facts get in the way of finding more reasons to villify Wilpon!

Bravely stepped into the No. 46 jersey of Ollie Perez, only to surrender it to Manny Acosta who wanted it all along.

You're certainly not the first with that mantra.

Are you going to recall Dale Thayer?
Pitched here for a very short time
Remember him for stuff that was fair
And a dreadful won and lost line

Re: Memories of Dale Thayer

I'm wondering if any pitcher can lay a worser Met legacy than appearing in 11 games and them all being losses. Maybe some Roadblock-type character from the early years.

I have researched this previously, and Thayer matched Joe Grzenda and Jerry Hinsley at 0-11. But they all trail Jerry Cram, who showed up to pitch in 14 Mets losses while forgetting to request a win.

Re: Memories of Dale Thayer

Damn, Cramn.

The Mets should bring him back some September and let him pitch to one batter in a 10-1 game.

Shit, why not just sign Cram for 2012, he's cheap...

This is why we need a return of 'Post of the Week' (or some similar type recognition method).
