[list=1][*]Shares his position, his beardedness, and his native island of Puerto Rico with the guy he was traded for.

[/*:m]
[*]Took up baseball late in his teens and had to learn to hit as an adult, which certainly explains in part his late bloominess.

[/*:m]
[*]First scout to spot him? Glad you asked. Jose Oquendo, baby.

[/*:m]
[*]At Miami-Dade Community College, he ran the 100 meters in 10.37 seconds, the second fastest recorded 100 meter time for all major league baseball players. (The fastest, you ask? Deion Sanders with a 10.26.)

[/*:m]
[*]Nearing 30 and in the minors and in a 1-30 slump, one of his coaches suggested he maybe start taking the medication he had been prescribed, and whammo, huh?

[/*:m]
[*]Is open about having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, which he treats with the aforementioned meds, as well as therapy. He is, in fact, the subject of a feature length documentary on his life with ADHD.

[/*:m]
[*]Had only 285 plate appearance by the time he was 30. Injuries forced the Giants to give him a chance at 31 in 2009 and he got into 75 games with 170 plate appearances and an .876 OPS. Further opportunities the next year opened the door and he went .823in 507 trips. Then he slid back last year.

[*]Has a wife named Soanie Mendoza, who --- while her name sounds like a portable personal device to ensure your rights when you're arrested --- is I'm sure, very nice. That name has also been spotted spelled "Suwannee." She's kind of wears those trashy rich lady sunglasses. I can forgive that, just stay away from Anna.

[*]On September 12, 2010, woke up with severe stomach pain. It turned out to be appendicitis and he underwent emergency surgery, but made it back into the lineup by October 1 --- in time for their triumphant post-season run to the championship.

[/*:m]
[*]Is apparently the nicest guy on the planet.[/*:m][/list:o]

Seriously, could they be more alike? It's like the Mets traded 30-year-old Ángel Pagán for 34-year-old Angel Pagan. He got traded for himself like Harry Chiti.

Or even more, in some sort of diabolical deal, the Mets received Ramon Ramirez in exchange for four years of Ángel Pagán's life.

Tracky has consistently said Pagan was unliked around the Mets, so there's that.

I got that management had given up on his game. Missed that folks had soured on his person. But I'm not a daily Tracky reader.

Pagan, who enjoyed a breakout season in 2010, regressed last season, and became highly unpopular in the clubhouse.

Some fine Andrés Torres glurge here, most interesting to watch his cinderblock and mud-hopping workouts.
