Santana did not pitch in the majors last season. He is in the midst of his regular offseason throwing program, but there is no guarantee he will be ready by Opening Day.

should've looked harder: "he tore his labrum and rotator cuff in 2008, missed the entire 2009 season recovering from surgery and wound up in the Nationals’ system in 2010" His numbers look good in the minors. Bullpen depth I suppose.

2011 - received an autographed baseball from Derek Jeter. With all this bargain-hunting screwing around, it they need a middle inning guy who can slso spot atart, I'd be ok with it if they re-signed Miguel Batista. Later

Well, yes, he does, perfectly-- he's too pitch-to-contact to really succeed in the 'pen, not durable enough to really start, too old to keep around AAA forever, and too shitty to stick in the majors for more than two weeks at a time. Vaguely remember him as a Brave. Made us look stoopid in September 2006, pitching eight innings of one-hit ball, while contributing a hit, walk, and two runs on the offensive side.

Olberman tweets The Marlins signed Jose Reyes. The Angels signed Albert Pujols. The #Mets have just signed Chuck James (LHP, Braves, 06-08). Sigh. Kinda sorta should be beneath him. It's not like the move is that relevant. Even if Reyes signed, The Chuck Jameses of the world will be invited to camp, as they are by all teams every spring. Besides, who are you to sigh over the Mets? Get off the bandwagon.

He pitched well enough at AAA last year to suggest he still has value. Not earth-shattering by any stretch, but I think it's a good pickup.
