I have no idea whether the ThePhilliePhans is a reliable source or a bunch of tools but.. @ThePhillyPhans The Philly Phans According to a source (this is our story, no actual report) "David Wright may be the 3rd baseman very very shortly."

Yeah, I can see it now; the trade doesn't happen but he backs out of shutting things down because, 'Hey, I wasn't wrong, that was an actual rumor'. Remember when the MOFO used to be full of questions like: Is this [rumored trade] just speculation or is it an actual rumor? And besides, how right or wrong can you be when all you're claiming is that David Wright MAY be the next Philly 3rd baseman?

Yeah, we call that here "pulling an Ambler" -- named for an old poster here and at an older forum who was always the first to claim that _______ was going to strike out in whatever clutch situation was coming up. When said player would hit a game-winning double he'd be mysteriously silent ... until 3 or 4 days later when the same player actually would strike out at which point he'd chime in claiming that he wasn't wrong, merely ahead of his time.

Well, he put a deadline on "soon" --- marking the new year as a line of proof. He declined to say what, besides an actual trade, would serve as proof that a trade was imminent. John Heyman says no way. (Not unless the Mets include Armando Benitez.)

There are really a bunch of legit reasons the Mets could and maybe should trade Wright (even to the Phillies) but if they think they could get a great package for him now, then it's gotta be better come July, assuming he proves his broken back isn't broken anymore and he can hit some HR's in a normy sized park. If he doesn't prove that stuff to be true, then they're selling the same commodity they are now, 'once great, maybe busted, but still young & full-of-potential' 3Bman. Mets fans (and org) still really need him now anyway. No chance he goes now so soon after Reyes. Suck it, Philly fans.

Go tell the '97 Marlins that you can't let your best players all leave at once... If the Mets plan not to keep Wright there's nothing wrong with doing it now if they feel they can get the best package while more teams might still have the combination of 1) the need at 3B, 2) the budget room for Wright's contract, and 3) still consider themselves contenders for this year. Waiting until July might raise the price some teams will pay (particularly if a contending Giants team loses Sandoval or the Yankees lose Arod to injury) but it may also lower the number of suitors. Wright's value may also go down if he doesn't show he can hit like the 'old wright' in the new field. I don't care about the Reyes-thing either, each move needs to be evaluated on its own merits and not in the light of past mistakes. If the Mets were holding onto Wright while his value is highest (not saying it necessarily is) just to avoid further angering the pitchfork-bearing fans angry about Reyes, they'd be stupid. Sure I'd hate Wilpon more if he let's Wright go, but so what? I can't swear off the team I'm already not giving money to right? Might as well get all the hate out of the way at once!

Martinez is no longer on lists of 'prospects' because he's exceeded the ML minimum limits for ABs and/or service time.
