Be Specific

Could we please make thread titles more specific? Having titles like "Packing His Bags" and "Twitterverse on Fire" could mean something different every day. It makes it difficult to find a thread on a specific topic. Maybe "Twitterverse On Fire: New Wright Rumor."

you have no idea how often I accidentally stumble into a music thread because of the title.

Re: Be Specific

I dont mind the "misleading titles", I especially enjoy the ones like "WRIGHT TRADED" OR "METS GET MADDUX" only to see that they've traded Jared Wright or acquired Mike Maddux.

There are two problems I see with it: First, if your thread is mis-titled you've increased the likelihood that someone wont open it and will start a thread on the same topic (but this isnt a problem as long as admins dont mind taking a minute to merge threads.) The second and larger problem is that if you title the thread about the acquisition of a player "HOLY SMOKES!" its hard for someone to find 6 months later.

Its still fun though, so I dont want to see the creativity stifled.

I'm with bmfc1. Since I started working, I skim the Pool more than I read it. The cutsey, misleading titles are annoying and I'm more likely than not to just skip them when I'm rushed.

We can be creative without being generic. "METS GET MADDUX" is funny. "Let's Welcome A New Met" is vague.

Re: Be Specific

On the other hand, "Be Specific" isn't a very specific title.

I've re-titled my stupid Wright thread, which really should have been called "Stupid Wright Thread."

I couldn't disagree more. The cute, creative subject titles are one of the thing that make this place so... Cranepoolian.

Oh, and Edgy, the Wright thread just doesn't seem as creative with the new thread title.

I'm all for "cute" and "creative". Saying "Traded" or "Bags Packed" is neither.

This can only be settled one way.

Parody fight.

No fighting. Just a difference of opinion.

"Difference of Opinion" was one the many names of our band back in high school.

actually I thought the vagueness of the title was a good one in that case. Presumably the twitterverse will explode a couple more times before the season starts.

Re: Be Specific

I guess I kind of thought the explosion was more notable than the story itself, being as how the story wasn't being run by any less ephemeral source.

Even PhillyPhans.com --- the website, not the twitter account --- wasn't reporting anything.

Re: Be Specific

My "bitch" here wasn't directed at any one particular post or person because everybody, including myself, is guilty of writing vague subject titles. Perhaps one way to go is, for example, "Twitterverse On Fire, 12/23/11" to distinguish it from the day before and the day after when other unfounded rumors are spread on Twitter.

Other potential titles included "Wright down I-87", "Philly Phans making sh*t up", and "Its fucking December, what else were we going to talk about????"
