It's good that you're excited, and I really don't want to harsh anybody's buzz, but at this point, the thought of the Mets 2012 season just makes me feel weary. And I've never felt that way in January before!

wow, calling dibs a bit early, I see :-). It's kinda like the shotgun rule, you call shotgun to early, it doesn't really mean you're going to get shotgun. I wonder if someone will actually remember this thread when 4/5 rolls along, or if we'll have a new IGT sometime in April.

Even the pre-emptive alibis sound convincing today. The ballpark's redesign is going to affect the Mets in plenty of obvious ways, but also in some you might not expect. With all the negativity this offseason, it's pretty cool to get through the opening day introductions without some minor pissup. Very strong opening inning from Johan. The Braves were baffled on numerous pitches, and their only hit was a lame grounder off the end of the bat that found the hole to the outfield. I don't think that Johan reached 90 MPH on any pitch, though.

Wow, .647 on opening day. Almost no negativity. Gary had to go out and play the "looks like Benitez" card, but other than that, a huge cultural positive. Competitiveness-wise, we're thin on outfielders, and our lefthanded sluggers didn't get it done. Did Davis drop his hands toward his crotch as the pitcher started his windup last year?

I don't post much here anymore, but I still check in from time to time. It was a great, almost perfect day weatherwise for a baseball game. It was good to meet up with Metfairy and KC and D-Dad. Got to meet some new faces as well.

Well yeah, I had one at the Read the Apple tailgate, one at the "Metsblog" tailgate, and one inside. Was going for another but the line were crazy so I opted to actually watch the game instead. Always glad to see the team win on opening day. Pelfrey and Bay got all the boos in the introductions. Biggest cheers for Wright, Dickey and Santana. Was very pleased with the bullpen, particularly Byrdak and Rauch. The game might not have been sold out but there were indeed a lot of people there and it was probably close to a sellout; I guess I wasn't the only one who caved because it was opening day.

He hasn't made a freaking out yet in 2012, people. Also, the man is unquestionably hustling and doing his best out there. -> Santana looked fantastic until he didn't. -> Ike saw a lot of breaking balls. -> Was good to see metfairy, D-Dad, Kase, and Fafif (if only briefly).

I envy those of you in the greater NYC area, close enough to go to a Mets game on a weekday without it impacting the rest of your work week or lives too significantly. Having said that, Fboy and I had the next best thing. He had a half day of school today, and so I picked him up and brought him home, we had lunch, and then I worked from home (on a slow-ish paced afternoon, work wise, fortunately) and we watched the game together on a 55" HDTV in surround sound. They won, we watched it in its entirety, I was on the clock the entire time. Good deal right there.
