Danny Herrera and Fernando Martinez.

Ceetar Jan 09 2012 02:32 PM Re: Waived |
not quite a Woah yet. If it's indeed true, it might mean nothing more than removal from 40 man.

Edgy MD Jan 09 2012 02:36 PM Re: Waived |
I don't have no ESPN access, but if these are truly revocable waivers, then the Mets better clear some room in the next 24 hours, because there's no space to pull them back to.

...there's that whole guaranteed contract thing. You think they're eating $1.2 million? No way.
|
Edgy MD Jan 09 2012 02:50 PM Re: Waived |
It's a spent cost. If they've lost faith in his ability to outpitch the last guy on the roster, why not?

Good bye Fmart you pussy little toad.

Not much regard for Justin Turner here either.
|
bmfc1 Jan 09 2012 03:58 PM Re: Waived |
I also like Herrera. That slow pitch got a few outs last season although the Mets think that the pitch loses its effectiveness with familiarity. He was half the "bounty" for F. Rodriguez so I'm surprised that they gave up on him this quickly.
|
smg58 Jan 09 2012 04:34 PM Re: Waived |
Martinez is out of options, so unless he made the team as the fifth outfielder, this was going to happen. Of course, going out and getting a fifth outfielder will necessitate somebody else being waived, too. I'd have given him the chance, personally.

Nymr83 Jan 09 2012 04:51 PM Re: Waived |
Fernando Martinez? I wonder what the Mets could have gotten had they dealt him when he was still considered a "prospect", now he's gone the way of Milledge and Escobar, trade-bait gone rotten
|
Ceetar Jan 09 2012 07:01 PM Re: Waived |

Fernando still has options.

it would be sad if this was really the end of fmart's met career.

Because perfection doesn't exist in this broken world, yet still some light breaks through. And it's ours to search through all the broken places trying to find it.

Very poetic. Very true. There are a bunch of "imperfect" major leaguers. They're called designated hitters. Later

If you a part time OF and want to try to catch lightning in a bottle try Fmart.

Wonder if Fmart has an education.
|
Edgy MD Jan 10 2012 09:21 PM Re: Waived |
Why do you wonder that?
|
metsguyinmichigan Jan 11 2012 03:53 AM Re: Waived |
Trying to figure out exactly what this means. Have the Mets cut ties with him for good, or does he come back with a minor league deal if not claimed by another team?
|
Benjamin Grimm Jan 11 2012 04:14 AM Re: Waived |
He's still Mets property if he's not claimed. They'd be able to put him in the minors and off the 40-man roster.
|
Ceetar Jan 11 2012 05:28 AM Re: Waived |
|
yes, they do. It's possible Sandy asked around a bit about trading him to judge interest and has an educated hope that he'll clear.
|
Edgy MD Jan 11 2012 06:29 AM Re: Waived |
I'd say it's probable. How educated that hope is and how much stock Sanderson is placing in it are further matters, but there have been whispers for several months that the Mets were looking to move on from the Martinez adventure.
|
Ceetar Jan 11 2012 06:42 AM Re: Waived |
|
We'll find out soon. But him playing 'everyday' in the minors without eating roster space is probably the best option.
|
metirish Jan 11 2012 06:43 AM Re: Waived |
Alderson has no emotional ties to the kid, if he evaluated his body of work and his body he'd not be impressed, and obviously he wasn't.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jan 11 2012 07:49 AM Re: Waived |
Geez. If he coulda traded him I'm sure he woulda.
|
Ceetar Jan 11 2012 08:00 AM Re: Waived |

That was kinda my point on the I hope he clears front.
|
attgig Jan 11 2012 08:09 AM Re: Waived |

not sure about a "hope" that he'll clear, but perhaps a realization that nobody would give up anything of any worth for him... Fmart became someone not worth trading for, but worth giving a shot.
|
Edgy MD Jan 11 2012 08:22 AM Re: Waived |
Tracky tweeting that he's been claimed. By whom is not yet clear.
|
Ashie62 Jan 11 2012 09:52 AM Re: Waived |

They keep trying that but he gets hurt, every time.
|
Ceetar Jan 11 2012 10:00 AM Re: Waived |
so let's take him out back and shoot him, that'll help the Mets win.
