Offspring, 2012

Our 2011 thread can be found here. AfterMets, it can be found in our archives among threads started in May 2011.

Opening our 2012 thread is the offspring not of a Met, but of a Met nemesis. Meet young Shannon Magrane, daughter of Joe. Joe once led the National League in ERA and made Craig Swann look like a hoss in doing it, winning only five games as he pitched 165 innings, just over the title-qualifying minimum. I expect Shannon to similarly sweep to victory by efficiently and effectively doing as little as possible.

I don't know how folks watch this stuff. I got the skeezes and turned it off when Steven Tyler said "Wow...."

Joe Magrane, the only guy to start games 1 and 7 of the same World Series and not start another game during the series. (1987)

Re: Offspring, 2012

Or maybe, being a pitcher, he just wasn't pitchy enough.

And what is it with StL Cardinals and singing offspring? Wasn't Ozzie Jr part of that show a few years back?

Frank Viola's son (also a Frank, not sure if he's a junior) is a minor league free agent currently learning the knuckler from R.A. Dickey.

Lee Mazzilli said he'd rather hit with the bases loaded in Gm 7 of WS than watch LJ, his son, play. Too nerve-wracking.

LJ Mazzilli is a junior at UConn, as is his twin sister Lacey Mazzilli. UConn had its first game today.

Mazzilli decides against joining Twins organization, will return to UConn
Staff reports

Drafted in the ninth round by the Minnesota Twins in the recent major league draft, LJ Mazzilli, of Greenwich, has decided to return to UConn to play his senior season, the Hartford Courant reported.

"He's a better player than where he was drafted," UConn coach Jim Penders, who got the news from Mazzilli on Friday, told the Courant. "And he wants to prove that."

Mazzilli, an infielder, has a career .338 average at UConn. He helped the Huskies reach the NCAA tournament in 2010 and 2011. Mazzilli is the son of former big-league player and coach Lee Mazzilli.
