Memories of Willie Harris

He's off the Cincinnati. I don't really have any distinctive memories of him. He played in a whole lot of games all over the place, and actually wasn't horrible at not making out, but.. I'm sure someone does, somewhere. go for it.

Interesting if he parlayed his year with the Mets into a big-league deal. I was hoping for more power from him.

I think I will always remember his defensive plays opposing the Mets than anything specific he did for the Mets.

LWFS wrote the best comment on Willie, something to the effect of: When he's not winning games for you, he sucks (but put even more succinctly than that). That was after a few early season incidents including the game-winning hit to key the Mets first win of the year got him off to a strong start and just as quickly got him exposed. Not nearly the fielder I was hoping for. Joins Ken Henderson, Ronn Reynolds etc. among the weirdest opening day starting lineup guys in team history. Had his uni number (22) tattooed on his forearm.

He was great in ST last year and was charming with Guys! but I'm very glad that he won't be a Met in '12.

Made a fantastic diving catch in St. Louis in September that provoked the question, "Well, where was this all year long?" Gave that unfortunate sound bite to MASN about missing being on the Nationals while sucking for the Mets which led every Mets fan and his/her uncle to suggest he go back there if he liked it so much. Was gratified to glean toward season's end that he had brought his Veteran Leader skills to bear (like in the Jose curtain call situation). I kind of thought that would be what he'd be good for. Good luck with the next step in the journey. Don't use your one hot streak on us.

seemed a genuinely good guy and he did have a rather rough time personally last year, (his wife lost a baby right?) and the beat guys, at least Martino, seem to like him and think it's a mistake to let his veteran leadership go. Baseball wise, I won't miss him.

Provided the versatility a short contemporary MLB bench needs, though, even if he wasn't much of a threat as our lefty bat off the bench.

Not as good as Lenny Harris, which is not very good at all.
