Not so long ago, I was telling my son about Godzilla and told him "...and he has a nephew named Godzuki!" And my wife said "That's only in the cartoon." So I looked it up on the internet and the only reference I could find to Godzuki was for Godzilla the animated series. But I never watched the animated series when I was a kid and clearly remember that there was a character in one of the movies - one that looks exactly like the one in that photo DJ posted - who was named Godzuki. What gives? (sorry, I know this is total derail of the Jeff Wilpon thread).

Oh, I see what your sayin. The image wasn't very "historical". The ones you linked would put it more in that context. That's true and sorry bout that. Went for the funny.

I had this wallpaper I created a few years ago for Dr. Who. Looking around for images to use for this I found a layered (.psp) save of the Who/River Song wallpaper. Thought it would be funny to just slide Freds head in there and slap on a new backround. So 95% of the work that went into the astronaut image was done long ago. Yea, kinda like cheating.

Well, you could take a printout of a picture picture, cut our Jeffy's face and paste it onto another picture, and then scan that.

I use a very old program, PsP7 (Paint Shop Pro 7--I have CoralDRAW6 but have no idea what I'm doing in there yet. Keen to learn tho). I've been using PsP7 for over ten yrs so I really know my way around. I still discover new things I can do with it. Its very user friendly compared to the more current programs(to me, anyway) and allows you to work in pixels as well as vectors. Working with pixels is much easier and convenient for this type of fotofun.

I used to do rudimentary things in MSpaint way back when, and you can at least do some cutting and pasting, resizing, editing, etc. in there. Might be called just "Paint" these days-you will find it listed under: programs>accessories on any PC.

Re: Find Jeff Wilpon in History

Yeah, for this sort of thing, a simpler program like Zvon mentions is probably better. The number of Photoshop features I actually use (or even know how to use) is fairly small, and a program that had only those features would be great.

Re: Find Jeff Wilpon in History

Photoshoppers are not magicians so lets see how this is done. I'll show step by step images of my latest effort.

Here is the picture that I want to turn into historical Jeff. Nothing reeks of history like a Viking.

The best fit Jeff head I have for it:

Firstly, to match the Jeff head, I have to reverse the Viking image horizontally.

Usually I take a "cut out" of Jeffs head and place it on top of the body or over the face (or whatever) I'm trying to turn into Jeff and work it til it works. This time I tried something different. Working in layers I removed the face from the original image. This left a gaping hole where Jeffs gaping face will be.

Then I slid the Jeff head image underneath the Viking image so Jeffs face showed thru the gaping hole.

I used layers to add little feathered cut outs from the original Viking on top of Jeffs ugly mug.

Using the "push brush" on Jeffs orig pic, I made sure his hair is out of the picture. Then I went to work on making Jeff fit better with color, tint, contrast and brightness adjustments. He starts to look like one a those walking deads.

Then combine all the layers and save:

The hardest thing a photoshopper has to know is when to stop. If you have an eye for detail you will want to work it til you feel everything matches, like DJ did with the photo grain in the urinal picture. Sometimes they come together quickly and sometimes you have to work it. That all depends on how much detail you want to get into.

For this thread you don't have to be all shoppy like that^ and simple cut and pastes can easily be as funny and as good as anything more complicated shoppers do. Because this thread should be more concerned with the laugh as opposed to the look.

It would be kool if over time we started a number of these threads with different people as the target. Cuz I'll do this shit all season.

Re: Find Jeff Wilpon in History

Interesting tutorial. The feathered cutouts and the push brush are new to me. I think I would have tried to combine the Viking's Klingonish forehead with Jeffy's face, and gotten stuck on matching the skin tone and texture.

Using someone else might be fun. Who, though? Jeff Wilpon is the perfect stooge--he looks stupidly out of place anywhere, including, of course, Mets board meetings. How about the opposite, someone who always looks like he belongs? Like Felix Millan. You couldn't throw Felix Millan. (Except on his head, of course, like Ed Ott.) Here's Felix negotiating the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

The head is from the Felix Millan Little League site, here: http://www.eteamz.com/felixmillanlittleleague/news/ There's also a nice picture there of Felix with his family at spring training.

The body is Robert Redford from The Sting. I couldn't find any other pictures of someone playing poker and facing the right direction, and this one only seems to exist in black and white, so I had to color it in. That's kind of the definition of borderline obsessive right there.

And I applied the grain just to Jeffy's head, to match the grain in the picture. It's "film grain," to be exact. I made a duplicate layer, applied the grain, then reduced the transparency of that layer to tone the grain down a bit. The hardest part was actually matching the tinting of the original. It would have been a lot easier if I'd desaturated the original and re-tinted the whole thing at the end.

How are you getting drawing effects like Felix in the boat? Using filters in the program and tweaking those, or doing any drawing of your own?

Amazin, the work with the Redford body. And you put him in orange and blue. Awesoooome!

The "borderline obsessive" business: thats not a bad thing if you channel it into something like this. I have no doubt that being a bit obsessive over detail makes me a better photoshopper, and graphic artist in general. For this kind of thing I embrace the obsession.

The Jeff grain : you are damn good.

For the Felix portrait: First I used the PsP "contour effect" on Felixs head. Sometimes this creates a very nice outline drawing of an image- but it didn't here- so I just kept the overall outline and removed all lines within the face. I had to [crossout]hand draw[/crossout], ugh, I mean mouse draw the main details like eyes, nose, mouth. Then I added some lines and details on a separate layer to try and make it look like the original artists style. Then I applied a "motion blur" (at an appropriate angle) to that layer and it made the lines look smoother, less pixely, and more like the guys style.

Thnx for the link to the Millan site :)

It was hell. Just a desperate combination of trying out layer options (Multiply? Overlay? Hard Light?), playing with color balance, using the Smudge tool to make it look less pixellated, and the Sharpen tool to try to simulate the digital corruption in the original. I found that the best way to add shading was to select an area, take the brightness way down, and smudge it to blend it in. I'd figured out some things by the time I did the guard in the back, which I think came out better.

So who is Jeff helping to bury?

I know what you mean but don't look at it like your goin thru hell. Its fun. Sure the end result is fun, but part of the fun is how you can explore (sometimes stumble) your way to interesting and amazing results if you really use a program coupled with your brain to its combined potential. I read what you say there and I don't see you going through hell. I see you exploring the possibilities. I always run shit thru filters and check out how it looks. And every once in a while I'll come across a new way to do something, or I'll try an effect that I would normally never consider and the result is amazin. Love when that happens.

No Idea what's going on in that picture. When I noticed this thread I searched google image for "historic pictures". I quickly reviewed and grabbed a bunch that looked good to use. Didn't read captions or anything. Initially I figured one of the shovel guys would become Jeff. But then I saw a guy behind them who looked to be Hitler.

Of course it's fun. It can be exasperating too, and frustrating, and with a difficult one like that it gets to a point where I wonder how long exactly it's supposed to take to stick Jeff Wilpon's silly head in a silly picture, and what the hell's become of my life. And only the fact that this is silly saves me, because it means there's no pressure, no one will know or care if I just toss it, but if it works out, great, because someone might enjoy it. And that makes it fun again. And yeah, I've learned something about the process too., and surprised myself sometimes. You know, when I first started playing with Photoshop, about fifteen years ago, it was my own face, of course, that I stuck everywhere (and my girlfriend's; she got to be Eve in the Garden, with glasses). That was fun too.

Now here's Jeff channeling the feelings of Met fans everywhere on the signing of Frankie Rodriguez. I think Jeff has moments, microsecond-long spasms, where the true horrendousness of things hits him--who am I, what am I doing here, will I have money for food tomorrow, why did I have to wear these socks?--and then he collects himself again and he's the smiling sophisticate we all love. I put Jeff in a photo with Pancho Villa a while ago, eating tortilla chips or something. But that was pointless, because they had already met, in an alternate reality that is now our reality. Pancho Villa, Emiliano Zapata . . . and Jeff Wilpon, Mexico City, 1914.

Where the fk did u get that Jeff face? Priceless! GJ. I saw the movie Creature From The Black Lagoon (again) a few weeks ago and its funny how the creature is scarier looking in still shots.

The creature isn't menacing him, he's spotting him. Jeff tends to black out if he does more than two revolutions before he hits the water.

The Jeff face is on the Getty Images site, originally from the Daily News. He's playing wiffleball on Family Day, and a five-year-old smacked a line drive right back at him when he wasn't expecting it. Thought he could sneak the changeup by him. Here's the link. http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news- ... o/97288281

I don't know, I don't mind the new alternate caps. They look kind of like the seventies Giants caps, which I always liked.

It's time to have a more positive attitude around here. Look this way, Jeff.

Maybe this thread is a dead horse by now, but at least it can be a winged horse. Here's Jeff Wilpon, freshly oiled and mulleted, off to the ends of the earth to find the Mets another washed-up outfielder.

This thread should never die. Fade away, maybe. Great job DJ. I'm all Jeffed out for now but if some idea or inspiration comes to me I will phoenix the thread, as should we all.

I doubt my next one will be a Jeff. Should we just dump all funnyfotoshops here or start a more generic thread?

I don't think the effect of Jeff Wilpon on history has been fully explored yet. Each one of these is like a little ray of sunshine poking through the relentless gloom that is 2013 Mets baseball.

So yeah, keep going with the Jeffies.

Why, thank you. I lucked out on Jeff's head, which was a nearly perfect match for the original (it's Johnny Depp!). Jay's was a bit more work. Here's a link to the original, if you're curious. That's amazin'. I was wondering how you got Jeff to comb his hair that way, but that's Depps real hair! And I thought you had to use Jays entire upper body to put there, but that guy has a Horowitzy body, cloths and all!

I lost track of this thread and there are, unbelievably, some things I hadn't seen yet. Yo Batmags, that is AWESOME! work and hilarious.

As to your question about how long the movie poster took. I don't remember but I think I did mention wanting to make one in this thread. I probably would have started it right after that comment.

We are losing stuff in this thread (imagewise) and that's a shame. I still have all my stuff supported although I may have moved some to another album during organizing stuff. I would have saved all of em and supported them just to keep this thread whole.

I'm gonna start sharing these crazy things on fb and twitter. Only the ones I made. I'd also post the others with permission.
Some really great and funny work here. Shame for it to just fade away.
