mr met, where are you?

i am the worst met parent ever. i'm pretty sure i left mr. met, pictured below in happier times, on the roof of my car as i drove home from a party at my mom's house on sunday. i thinnk i put him on the roof as i was moving stuff around in the back seat, and enver brought him back in. there are incriminating smudge marks on the roof that lead me to this suspicion. sunday was also the last time i know that i saw him. and we've been looking since monday night. its an extremely tight window wherein he could have gone off the reservation.

i just drove to my mom's house, walked a mile in the dark along the roads leading away from her house, drove over those same roads about three more times, and drove back. no sign. not helping matters was that today was garbage day. fuck. fuck. and triple fuck.

i hoped to find him still soggy from the rain on monday, and maybe a bit battered. but nothing.

worse, he's no longer available for sale in the mets store. honestly, i'm not even sure when i got him. he could be half a decade old for all i know, or more. but i thought minimm would like him, and boy was i right. he was his second most favorite toy, behind only his beloved woof-woof, and it made me so proud that mid kid loved mr. met. he referred to the two of them as his friends. barely two years old and he was a solid mets fan already.

there's not even a mr. met on ebay. i thought for sure he'd be on ebay. no luck. not a single one.

and so i turn to you kindly folk.

if y'all have even a hint of a whisper of a ghost of an idea as to where i can turn to for a new mr. met, i would be forever grateful if you could pm me.

thanks muchly.

pay no attention to the grown man whimpering in the corner.

Re: mr met, where are you?

Ugh.

I just came in to the Mister and the m.e.t.b.o.t. from our household talking this over. m.e.t.b.o.t. is ready to pack him up and send him over. Mister is trying to laugh at that suggestion but really seems a little worried.

m.e.t.b.o.t. is heartless.

Re: mr met, where are you?

I can't help with Mr. Met (at the moment*) but should say we left Lunchpail's "Mr. Tiger" in a hotel room in Jamaica a few years back. We were devastated and panicked, then lucky to get it back via a very expensive Fed Ex only to realize WE missed it a million times more than he ever did.

*-I'll be by the Mets retail store in midtown on Saturday, will look there for ya.

Re: mr met, where are you?

he's asked about him once or twice since. the

killer is that minimm has just moved up into a new class at day care. he's played with the kids in the class before, and one of his friends move up with him, but he left behind about 3 close little munchkin friends his exact age that he's been with for a year and a half, and a few others he's been playing with that are a couple of months behind. oh, and at the same exact time he moved into this class, he finally chewed through his final pacifier, and has been off it since. he's been very upset lately when we drop him off and i think its because he doesnt get to play with his friends or see the teachers that he liked so much. and monday, after we dropped him off, mrs.mm and i discussed that maybe if we let him bring in mr. met with him, he'd feel better, and mr. met could be his little security blanket.

that was when we started thinking, hey, where is mr. met anyways?

the only other toy he has that'd warrant this much attention is woof-woof. any other stuffed animal, doll, whatever, and i wouldn't care. i wouldn't have spent the night scouring northwest jersey. this is different. this is mr. met.

Re: mr met, where are you?

When I was at Citi a couple of weeks back, they still had quite the selection of Mr. Met manques.

Additionally, as recently as this past Christmas, you could get one of these gents...

... at the Build-a-Bear flagship store on Fifth Avenue.

Re: mr met, where are you?

I may be able to help you. I bought one of similar size, though not wearing the black unis, a few years ago for Fgirl that only got a passing thought. I will look to see if it is in the "critter cave," an end table in our family room where scorned stuffed animals live out their days like Thai prostitutes stuffed into the back of a Ryder truck.

Re: mr met, where are you?

That's a good thought Fman - I might also have one in my collection.

mm - if you still need one tonight, let me know and I'll check what I have at home.

Re: mr met, where are you?

you guys are awesome!

the fman/edgy misters are good matches. the only difference is the uni, which i think is easily explained. they're the right size/style

i'll wait to see what you have, tmf. the matchier the better!

as an aside, i am now highly motivated to finish that running shirt design...

Re: mr met, where are you?

Note to future parents -- when MiniWolf was born, we knew he was going to get attached to SOMETHING, so we kinda forced the issue with one particular teddy bear who we named Bobo (after a stuffed animal on a commercial) and kept it with him all the time. When we bought Bobo, we bought three, and kept two of them in reserve hiding in a closet in case of emergency.

MiniWolf throws up on Bobo in the middle of the night? Daddy runs downstairs and "cleans" him really quickly and VOILA! Bobo's as good as new, while throw-up-Bobo is in the washing machine.

That's some "Jeopardy" contestant-smart shit right there. I've been out on enough midnight runs looking for various replacement stuffed animals to know it.

Re: mr met, where are you?

sooner rather than later, mrs.mm and i are going to have ot make a very special trip to build-a-bear to craft up a duplicate for woof-woof. the poor little doggy has only been in minimm's clutches for half a year, and i'm shocked that he's still in one piece. pantsless, hatless, and skateboardless, but still in one piece.

also, tmf has an exact match. subversive black uni, floppy black hat. i owe y'all a running shirt design... nay, i owe y'all running shirts. thank you all so much!

Did the same with our Mr. Met when YoungerPooper was crib-sized. The investment's paid off in spades. (Or, more accurately, many hours of less-interrupted sleep.)

Re: mr met, where are you?

Here is how you solve such problems: buy them in bulk!

Our son was attached to "Buddy." Way too attached. And Buddy got pretty smelly - and needed to air dry, so there were times when he was out of commission. And there were incidents where Buddy was left home and feared lost.

And they were kind of hard to find in the stores. So, whenever we saw one, we'd snap it up and had a rotation going between the washer and daycare. We never went on a trip without packing multiple Buddies.

This came in handy when we lost one of the Buddys in South Beach, Fla. We joke that one of the Buddys is living an alternative lifestyle.

The son is almost 20 now. But we still have a stash of Buddies from back in the day.

I feel your pain!
