Pre-Season Magazines

Do you still buy pre-season baseball magazines? The concept is antiquated as the magazine doesn't update to put A.J. Burnett on Pittsburgh but it's nice having a preview of the season to take on the train. If you buy one, which one?

Re: Pre-Season Magazines

I was always a Street and Smith guy, but I haven't bought one in a few years.

Street and Smith was the classic one.
There was also one by Bill Mazeroski (well, it had his name on it) which was interesting because it rated some top prospects for each team. It was the only place we could read about the kids other than in the Baseball Digest Rookie Report issue.
These days, many of the mags are predominately Rotisserie-related. Check it out before you buy.

I tend to find the predictions in the [u:8orrtpz7]post[/u:8orrtpz7]-season magazines to be much more accurate.
Want to know who'll win each division this year? ... I'll tell you in October.

One of those perennial signs of spring that feels a little less vital every year, but their appearance on magazine racks (kids, ask your grandparents) is comforting.

Athlon Sports puts out a pretty decent one to go with those mentioned above. Used to rely on The Sporting News Yearbook before I decided the vast, worldwide, anti-Mets conspiracy had overcome them.

Was accused during my adolescence of wasting my money on preseason magazines. I still consider it an investment.

Sports Illustrated's pre season issue has come a long long way.
