Memories of Jason Isringhausen (Izzy II)

His emergence from the bullpen in a Mets uniform for the first time since 1999 on a Monday night at Citi Field was an early high point to a season that promised few in April. Morons were doing the wave as he was announced, but those of us paying attention were whisked away to days of promise, albeit unfulfilled.

Mostly didn't suck until he kind of totally did. Good luck keeping at it, however.

Messed up our offseason plans by helping to explode the notion that, really, anybody can close.

45 never quite looked right on him, IMO.

Some early-season goodfeeling, then a lot of warning-track fly balls that got caught... then some that didn't... then this against the Marlins, which we attended in person... then a whole lot of sighing whenever I heard his name announced.

Kinda pissed that he was given more than a token chance to close, considering his not-long-for-this-worldiness, while some others weren't given a serious chance.

It was about the 300 saves, wasn't it?

Blew a save or two after #300 also, I think. And then was shut down after the first week of September.

He really had nothing for about three or four weeks before that and was pitching on guile and charm.
