SB XLVI Commercials

I dare any other commercial this year to be better than this one:

Just what we need: More overrating of Ferris Bueller.

FB over-rating: A CPF tradtiion.

According to this link we never crowned a World Series of 80s Movies champion. Or did we?

I'm pretty sure we did. I think it was Empire Strikes Back.

I like how the Terminator had to survive consecutive confrontations with fellow badasses Rick Deckard, Frank Drebbin, and Daniel Larusso, who he barely finished off, 16-15.

Jesus, what a travesty. Lunchpail made me watch 'Phantom Menace' twice this weekend, speaking of overrated films.

Sorry. I liked the commercial. FBDO is overrated, but is still an enjoyable movie.

I watched it six times in a row. Loved the movie, loved the commercial.

I'm confused why a company would spend millions and millions of dollars on a Super Bowl spot and then release it so it can be all over the internet a week ahead of time.

To hype it of course. (And the %age of people that will have seen it come Sunday is tiny) Super Bowl ads aren't really ads anymore, they're 30 second 'shows'. Hype and pregame and postgame analysis of these things expand the value they get from it.

Better in concept than in reality, mostly because of its star. For a rich, successful dude, Broderick has looked strangely miserable for years, like someone who's desperately waiting for someone else to kill him, because he just can't do it himself.

That's because he's married to Sarah Jessica Parker, when he'd rather be married to Nathan Lane.

That volkswagon add is, like most sequels, incredibly lame... It smacks of someone in the ad department saying, "Let's slash the budget, but keep the same theme". Worst. Commercial. Ever.

Best. Worst.

Yeah, they're commercials, but they're art too, I suppose.

Because everything about the Super Bowl is hyped x10. (And the NFL itself) It's all about inflating it's self importance, and they've turned the Super Bowl into a party day that everyone HAS to watch. Advertisers caught on that millions were watching and it quickly became a game to out-awe the competition. It's a show within a show. I'm always fascinated by what they come up with, even if often years nothing is that memorable. A lot of the ads are geared towards the lowest common denominator, but those are often the worst ones. They're also the ones that are merely a twist off the ones in-season and are selling the same thing to the same people, so it almost seems a waste. That space has to be better used geared towards the millions of non-football fans (Women, etc) that didn't see your (much cheaper) ads all season. I know I'm playing into their hand like putty, but I'm curious about what the culmination of the Morgan Freeman- Visa commercial is going to be where the guy wins tickets for 10 of his friends to the Super Bowl. (And I was amused the last time I saw it, because it features what appears to be a Ravens fan teasing his friend a Patriots fan and making him put on the Ravens helmet to get the ticket)

I often get the idea that they're the result of ad company guys being given huge budgets which they then use in an attempt to impress other ad company guys. And while I suspect said ad guys could drag up piles of data which at least imply that said ads were hugely successful in increasing knowledge and sales of the product, color me skeptical.

True, but he'd also rather be married to the horse he rode in "Glory". Later

Vampires add was pretty cool. Bud Platinum seemed kinda lame.

And it's the only one I watched! (Started watching on TiVo-delay at 7:45, didn't have to watch a single commercial.)
