Niuewenhuis?

Yes, sir.

You're cut. Beat it.

Uh, OK, Skip.

Hey on your way out would you ask Matt harvey, Juerys Familia, Armando Rodriguez, Robert Carson, Wilmer Flores, Juan Lagares, Reese Havens, Josh Stinson and Matt Den Dekker to drop by? Thanks.

Re: Come see me in my office

This is the day things start to get serious. Pare down the roster in camp so the big boys can play. 3 weeks and 3 hours until Opening Day, let's get this going.

Yes, we have 70 games to win people!

Every year, always drop the first cuts news in your own thread, scooping the blazes out of the roster thread.

It's dispiriting, I tell you. Well played, sir.

Thank you. I changed up the approach on the fly this year, and with the unrecognizable thread title now am now looking forward to at least 2 new posts repeating this news coming up.

Sure, that's part of the fun, then the merge will happen.

Re: Come see me in my office

The best prospects players are usually among the first players sent down when the minor league camps start, so they can get more regular work. When do the minor league games start?

Later

Re: Come see me in my office

The actual minor league games usually start just a few days after the ML season gets going.

May and Johnson whacked, so looks like Nickeas will survive behind the dish.

Olson and Loewen also, so good news for Hererra and Baxter, respectively.

And Rottino and Batista. Shikey.

That's interesting. They seemed like they wanted Batista as the long man (and he's one of those opt out guys right?)

They're saying that Byrdak might actually be ready by Opening Day, or very shortly thereafter.

Re: Come see me in my office

Apparently, Torres will be ready to start the season, along with Hairston, so no need for MDD.
If Byrdak is ready, then i assume Hererra is a goner, too? a shame; i like him and we might lose him if he has to pass through waivers.

Herrera already passed through waivers. He's not on the 40 man.

Yeah, removed from the roster at the same time as Fernando Martinez, leading to the career- and self-examination captured in this shot.

Schwin? SCHWINNEY!

Yeah, Skip, here.

You're going North.

Really?

Yup. Really.

Wow.

No really. Catch a flight to Buffalo.

Buff...

Now get out of my face.

Shouldn't Schwin be using a bicycle?

Only if the club were looking to pedal him.

but what happens if we start with Byrdak on the DL and add Hererra to the roster, then we want to send him down when Byrdak comes back?

Presumably he'll pass through waivers again. What's the chance anyone wants him after a handful of innings that didn't want him a month ago?

Or you may be able to option him. not sure if he has any left.

Re: Come see me in my office

Or you send somebody else down who does have options. Or you pass somebody else through. Or you trade him. Or you trade somebody else. Or somebody else becomes unavailable by then. Or Byrdak never recovers.

It's a good day when we have too many healthy bodies.

Re: Come see me in my office

Or, if it's just for a few days, you pick somebody other than Herrera. Someone who's on the 40 and has options. (There must be somebody who fits that description, right?)

Rob Carson is the guy.

Or you could use Edgin, who definitely has the options. Herrera or Edgin is not taking Byrdak's spot (don't vacate a 40 man spot on the 15 day DL) so you're losing someone else anyway. You could option Edgin. I don't know if the Mets want to burn an option on him, then again, if he's really on projecting as a middle reliever at best, he'll either be one of those or flamed out by the time he uses up 3 option years at this point.
