Monk was making some savvy little gets in the latter half of the evening.

Re: I will win

Not for nothing, but I was kinda of relying on the tiredness/drunkeness/boredom of a long draft as a stategy to try and make some late, cheap moves under the radar.

I think this break in the action is going to allow for a little more studying and deal searching by everyone now that all of the GMs have an idea of how the auction and league works. Good for the league...but prolly worse for me in the long run, considering my plan going in. But I'm feeling OK about what I got last night.

Re: I will win

i agree. i was hoping to be smarter than the average bear, but got sucked into some of the frenzy. at least i didn't get the other nelson cruz... (since it's the off season, will he be droppable at no cost, presuming we start the league on time?)

that's certainly a good reason to get the draft finished up on tuesday - so if we have any serious regret over any of our picks, we can drop them. presuming that i have a correct interpretation of the rules, of course.

Re: I will win

I think there's an excellent chance I paid too much for Kemp (52) and Tulo (47) but in my defense the Pujols and Cabrera (?) bidders set the market and the rest of us had to play in it.

I felt like I did a good job of bidding up and bailing out overall. I wanted to make sure none of you got a guy that I considered a bargain at his price, though a few got through.

Re: I will win

only guy i really reached for was kershaw so far, though given what we're paying for pitching, he might be a value. everyone else i got is fairly close to what i had them at. excet for pelfrey. my spreadsheet has him at, like, -$20 or so, but i think that could be a bit unfair.

Re: I will win

Pelfrey might get you points on a HR/9 value, but we'll see on that.

No, the drop deadline was like 2/1 or something. Can drop guys, but I think they still count halfway against the cap.

I didn't really overbid on much, probably because since I couldn't nominate none of the guys were "my guys". Hopefully now that I have more money and I can sorta scare you guys away Tuesday night from the filler I want.

Re: I will win

Considering my splashing the pot so often and early (I was the Pujols/Cabrera guy... as well as the Hamels and the Darvish and the...), I actually like the shape of my team so far; I'm way cash-poor, but with only an OF slot or two and my relief corps to fill in, starting lineup-wise.

I have a feeling FMan's, like, OUT out.

We should probably get confirmation from him, and then mark his team abandoned, and then see if we can get a fill in.

Or something.

Trades are always possible anyway, some will have cap room, can take on a big salary if they need to.

i know m.e.t.b.o.t. would love to play, but that might raise some conflict of interest concerns:

"trade me hanley ramirez for mike pelfrey, or i find out if you'll blend, toaster"

Re: I will win

we're not able to close the draft until he's got a legal roster are we?

speaking of which, can you put the draft back on the schedule so that we can load up our respective watch lists, or does htat only happen once we're like 24 or 48 hours out?

I honestly have no idea. hmm..how do I 'close' a draft? that's an interesting question.

The draft window is still there. I popped in this morning to confirm that the order was fixed (it was) and my watch list was still intact as well. (Mike Piazza just sitting there waiting to be nominated)

Re: I will win

ah, yes. it helps if i'm logged in.

...

realizing that i'm arguing for a friend here, but is it right that muddy chickens is saddled with a phantom nelson cruz, the middling reliever from the turn of the millenium, instead of the real nelson cruz, the rangers outfielder most of us thought we'd bid for as we ran him up to $20? is it within the powers of the commish to nullify that acquisition?

unless the guy who nominated him knowingly threw a turd into the water in the hopes of baiting the whole lot of us. in which case, that player should be saddled with the fecal nelson cruz.

i mean, either way, lesson learned for us all - at a minimmum make sure the guy has a team and/or position after his name! and if the commish lacks those powers, whatevs. i just think it's the right thing to do. i mean, if that was jose bautista, somebody would be royally fucked.

Re: I will win

The lack of a position/team after his name was why I questioned if it was the right Nelson Cruz in the chat. You can also click on a guy's name in the window and it'll pop up his stats.

I can't nullify it. I guess I can try to petition the Ottoneu people to bork it, but given that it's technically the way it's supposed to work, I'm not sure they will.

Re: I will win

fair enough, though the clicking on the guy thing can use up the majority of your 15 seconds of bidding time...

figured i'd throw it out there. ultimately i blame the interface. it could be so much better. so. very. much. i get that it's minimalist, and what not, but it's minimalism interferes with its functionality, imo.

I agree. I don't think it's so much that it's minimalist (like how the 'remove from watchlist' button doesn't work), just that they don't exactly have a full-fledged support staff or really any backing behind it. Maybe someone big buys it/sponsors it via Fangraphs and they can dump some money into it. Hey, I'm a programmer..

Anyway, I asked. My limited experience with it is that they're pretty supportive and understanding, but I don't really know in this case.

We're paying them. They should do it.

Re: I will win

Thanks to metsmarathon for sticking up for me. I genuinely thought I was bidding on the real Nelson Cruz. My interface was really screwed up and I couldn't see chat in real time. With only 15sec to make a bid, I just didn't happen to notice there was no team/position listed beside him. Also, there was no way I had enough time to click on each player to verify they were the real thing if I actually wanted to bid on them. At least not with the speed of the computer I was using. I do plan to use a faster computer for the rest of the draft.

If someone nominated him on purpose, that was a nasty thing to do, but whatever.

I'd love to get my cap space back to bid on the real Nelson Cruz when he comes up. I would appreciate anything that can be done about it. If it can't be fixed, then I'll deal. Thanks for understanding.

Re: I will win

Nah, not blaming you. Chat window kept breaking for me too and everything's a rush. I'd already searched for Cespedes to watch so I'd already realized what the no team thing meant.

I've been informed when I asked that I can in fact remove players. So I removed Cruz to no penalty. This is quite a lot of power I apparently have, which is why I initially suspected I couldn't do it. (it's hidden in the bottom of the commiss tools page. and requires three different dynamic combo box selections)

anyway, tic tacs and what not.

Re: I will win

Did anybody even notice at the time it was the wrong Nelson Cruz? It would not be fair to penalize Muddy for that.
