I'm going to be brewing a Mexican Blonde Ale (also known as Piazza Blonde), watching the Mets, eating Irish Soda Bread, and I dunno, drinking something.

Yeah, Throgs Neck had their parade last Sunday , went by that way later than night and saw a girl shit faced falling around the place and a bunch of louts drinking on the street......

I don't know where the line break is in your screen. Or yours or yours or yours. But I initially read irish's post as:

"Yeah, Throgs Neck had their parade last Sunday , went by that way later than night and saw a girl shit"

Anyhow, to Hell or Connaught, babies.

Happy day for all.

Incidentally, MF, thanks for sparing us the image of green bagels.

I'm somewhat confused - I've never bought, photographed or posted any images of green bagels before. Why would I do so now?

why wouldn't you? Am I a bad New Yorker ( well yes, i live in New Jersey) for liking Green Bagels?

Or green beer? (which is more nasty for the quality of beer it's usually put in)

This is me, drinking a Green Shock Top, watching the Mets play the Red Sox last year:

IIRC, this thread has contained those pics over the years (didn't remember who posted which). But I was thanking you for not doing it.

Yeah, this. But maybe I'll put on a Dropkick Murphys CD.

Green bagels are just wrong. But when I was in junior high, we had an Irish-Jewish shop teacher named Reilly who would wear a green yarmulke on St. Patrick's Day. That was kind of cool.

No reason at all. And there's nothing wrong with liking green bagels or green beer.

It just struck me as odd that MFS62 specifically thanked me for not posting something that I've never before posted.

And one more time from the lovely and briliant Terry Winch.

P R A Y E R T O S T. P A T R I C K

St. Patrick, snake-hating Brit, forgive
us our sins, our wins, our losses,
forgive us our employees and bosses,
forgive us those stupid four-leaf clovers
that idiots confuse with the Holy Trinity-signifying
shamrock, especially around this time of year.
Forgive us green beer, Hostess cupcakes with green
icing, forgive us the moronic greening
of hair, food, water. Forgive us the total
lack of meaning that now attaches to your name.
It is all truly unseemly and insane.

Grant us a moratorium on any more news of
the triumphs of Michael Flatley or Frank McCourt.
God bless Paddy’s pig and Paddy Moloney’s wig,
Mickey and Andy Rooney, Rosemary and George Clooney.
Requiescat in pace, Versace et Liberace.
In nomine Dei, we’ve had enough of Leahy.
Dear saint of our isle, we’d like to send ya
an urgent plea to abolish Enya.

Let the bar owners pay
the poor musicians
a small fortune.
They’re earning it.

Banish misfortune for the Irish
over here and the Irish over there.
Banish “Danny Boy” and “The Unicorn”
while you’re at it.

Let there be an Irish-American fin de siècle
starring Mark McGwire and Margaret Heckler.
Grant another eighty-seven years to my Auntie Nora
and let history smile upon the Irish Diaspora.

Let the music be on the mark.
Lead the fiddle players from the dark
of orthodoxy. Oremus for my brother Seamus.
Let a thousand poems and songs
end the battles and undo the wrongs.

This morning, the local weather guy on tv explained that even though he's Irish, he can't wear green. He works in front of a green screen and if he wore green, the weather map would be seen projected on the green he wears.

Gave in some, tore down our storm boards, went out, and picked up fixins and libations for a pseudo-Irish dinner:

Cabbage salad with pea shoots and orange bell pepper (dressing: simmered red-and-white vinegar, dijon, honey, celery seed, chives)
"Corned" seared ribeye (with juniper, allspice, ginger and horseradish sauce)
"Bangered" (mixed butter with rendered porkfat from a BLT lunch) garlic mash with Kerrygold Irish cheddar
Cinnamon-sodabread pudding (made from store-bought sodabread)

I'm certain I never saw anyone ordering it in Ireland and most certainly never in Tipperary which has a strong history of Black and Tan paramilitary presence. It might sound trite to people that we have such strong feelings about the Black and Tans but the history of them operating in Ireland is quite vicious. Indeed my grandfather who was born in 1901 used to tell us about them, what they did to the people. A good tip might be to no order one in a rural pub in Ireland.
