IGT: 4/7/2012, Braves @ Mets, Game Two

Jair Jurjenns vs. R.A. Dickey. Curacao vs. Kilimanjaro. Look for Kirk Nieuenhuis to get the call and make his big league debut starting and leading off.

Re: IGT: 4/7/2012, Braves @ Mets, Game Two

The weirdest 1-2-3 inning you'll see in a while. Way too shallow by Bay and a double drops in, 6-3 advances the runner.

Then a passed ball by Thole is retrieved in time for the 2-1 putout with a nice tag and then Mccann flies out to LF.

Mets take it back on a Thole single off Livan. 3-2 going to bottom-5.

9 for Nieuwenhuis, who just tapped out to short to end the inning.

Re: IGT: 4/7/2012, Braves @ Mets, Game Two

Murphy had a single off the wall just now, double to the mo-zone last year. Wright follows with a single, a passed ball makes it 2nd and 3rd. Do you walk Ike to get to Bay here? Livan opting not to so far...

On 2-0, 3 straight curve balls for strikes (the 3rd was fouled) then ball 3 on a fastball and another curveball for strike 3 looking. Don't underestimate Livan's veteran savy!

Well, yeah, but they did have a runner on, and a chance to do some insure-runs. But, yes, two innings would have been nice.

Another feelgood win. They might even knock the Yanks off of tomorrow's back pages for the second time this week. Is a 2-0 Mets start bigger news than an 0-2 MFY start?

Collins said he expects Duda to surpass Jason Bay in the batting order -- going from the six spot to the No. 5 hole -- in the second series of the season.
http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/p ... dimensions

Sounds fine by me. I don't know what Collins is waiting for though. Better late than never but it's two series too late if you ask me. Why not tomorrow?

Yeah. Too many designers don't know when to leave well-enough alone.
Sometimes the easiest way to say it's 1-and-2 is to put up a graphic that says 1-2

Yeah but it sounds as if Collins intends to move Duda up one slot no matter the pitcher, and not just against righties.

That new ticker blows. The runners on base graphic isn't so clear either. Who was the test audience? Mr. Magoo? The same guy that designed CF's scoreboards?

How does a play like that get scored? It wouldn't be a passed ball, because the runner didn't advance successfully. Is it a caught stealing? That's not quite right either.

Re: IGT: 4/7/2012, Braves @ Mets, Game Two

I was at the game too. Nice, crisp, fun game to attend. Sat, for the first time, in the 400 section, the Promenade boxes. (In my previous four trips to Citi, I was always in the 500 section, Promenade Reserved.) From where I was sitting, I couldn't tell if Wright's homer was credited to the new fences. Duda's first homer clearly was, and his second one clearly wasn't.

We didn't wander into the Shake Shack area at all, so I don't know what the lines were like. Didn't matter; my favorite Citi Field sandwich is the turkey and mozzarella hero, with roasted red peppers and marinated mushrooms, from Mama's of Corona. If I went to 100 games a year, I'd probably eat there 85 to 90 times.

They had some cool retro-looking t-shirts in the gift shop, but I lost interest when I saw the prices. $34.99 for a t-shirt? No thanks.

I think it is a caught stealing. Isn't that the same way you'd score it if a runner had broken to 2nd base when a ball trickled away, or via a delayed steal or other non-conventional advance?
Or is it just treated as "out advancing" the way you would for a runner trying to go 1st to 3rd? IOW, a simple 2-1 putout with no other specific designation.
Definitely no on the PB.

HRs old vs new fences:
Wright - HR either way
Duda - no HR 1st time, yes 2nd time
Keith says he (and by 'He' he means some SNY-employed lackey near him) is going to track those all year.

Ceetar
Apr 08 2012 06:41 AM
Re: IGT: 4/7/2012, Braves @ Mets, Game Two

ugh. I really don't want to see that tracked. the stadium is the stadium and I hope they're at least tracking the opposition too.

It's not a CS in the box score. I guess it's just plain "out advancing". Would have to dig into the rules to explain exactly why it's not a Stolen Base Attempt if you start once the pitch has been thrown?

Ceetar
Apr 08 2012 06:59 AM
Re: IGT: 4/7/2012, Braves @ Mets, Game Two

Rule 10.07(h) Comment: In those instances where a pitched ball eludes the catcher and the runner
is put out trying to advance, the official scorer shall not charge any “caught stealing.
” The official scorer
shall not charge any caught stealing when a runner is awarded a base due to obstruction or when a runner
is called out due to interference by the batter. The official scorer shall not charge a runner with a caught
stealing if such runner would not have been credited with a stolen base had such runner been safe (for
example, when a catcher throws the runner out after such runner tries to advance after a ball that had
eluded the catcher on a pitch).

Seems like an interpretation, but I guess it makes sense. It'll look like a 2-1 (or 2-6) in the scorecard, but without the CS or PO it'd have to be the out advancing thing.
