IGT: 4/10/2012, Nationals @ Mets, Game Five

Edgy MD
Apr 09 2012 08:54 PM

Back-end-of-the-rotation action happening as the Mets' Dillon Gee matches up against Ross Detwiler of the Nats.

Expect Ike Davis to remain seated as Terry Collins unveils his plan to pace his firstbaseman with respect to that Valley Fever thing. Carlos Beltran was sitting one game in three at the start of last season and it was enough to drive you crazy, but things worked out nicely Beltran-wise, so I'm going to give Terry the benefit of the doubt on this one. Even if he is starting Justin Turner* in his place.

*That's about two and half bills worth of OpS!

Wonder if they sit Ike really, given he doesn't have a hit.

If Ike is sitting I'd prefer Duda moves to 1B and Hairston starts over Turner starting.

Davis and Turner are roommates. Might not've said that if it was to give playing time to Ronny Cedeno or some other benchie.

Well, they did escape a first-and-third, NO out situation.

And speaking of escaping... Gee's fundies-- first the backing-up Hairston's errant throw from center, then the textbook 1-6-3-- get him out of the second, as Ramos returns the Metly favor with a DP.

I'll take either way.

One of the cool things about Murphy at second is that it sneaks a better bat in at a position where lesser bats typically play. I accept that may be fool's gold, but it's no more-so or less-so today then yesterday, and it's no more-so or less-so with Wright at third or Lutz.

I'll give a minus to Turner's glove, too. Cutting off Duda's throw, it looked like he realized he'd screwed up. Is there no back-up 1B? All things considered that was probably the least of the worries tonight.

Frayed Knot
Apr 10 2012 08:34 PM
Re: IGT: 4/10/2012, Nationals @ Mets, Game Five

Yeah, although it didn't help that Duda wasn't exactly in position to throw and so got off a weak one from a spot that shouldn't even need a cut-off. And of course watching that catchable fly ball land for a double (or was it a triple?) earlier on makes him the #2 culprit of the night.

But, Geez, Murph did what at the plate?, something like: K, K, GiDP, Pop-Out -- and in the field managed to turn 3 potential DP balls into a grand total of two outs.
