reading through Paul Depodesta's chat on baseball prospectus, I came across this line: Edgy from the Crane Pool (Washington, DC): What is the model of good development personnel --- minor league coaches and instructors? Do you look for them to be adherents of a universal philosophy coming down from the top or to work with their own ideas and bag of tricks, under the assumption that it takes philosophical variety to reach and get the most out of a a variety of players. However, you have to maintain enough flexibility to create individual plans for each player. He answered the second part, an answer I guess most of us would have guessed would be "both." I kind of still feel up in the air on the first part, which has long been a mystery to me, and I guess I wish I didn't ask a two-parter.
