2k12 after 3 games

Trying to do this without saying "if" even once.

-The defense is gonna be pretty entertaining this year (i.e.- induce fits of swearing and binge drinking)
-There's a decent chance the offense could make up for it, though. Feel like if Ronny Cedeno gets more than 200 AB's this year, something pretty bad happened and the team probably sucked in the end.
-A 'good' David Wright makes a shit ton of difference.
-The youngin's remind me a lot of the Indians from 2011. Too dumb or stubborn to know they're not supposed to compete/be as good as the other teams in the division. Nobody tell them.
-Very good, but not necessarily surprising starting pitching so far (outside of maybe Johan, cause who knew what to expect w/ him). No offense to Pelf and Gee who have done nothing right or wrong yet, but still feel overall SP depth and talent at the back end is gonna ultimately sink this team.
-Bullpens and their members are particularly mercurial. If these guys don't suck, this team probably won't either.
-Citi Field sounded nice & noisy on the radio

What's real and what's not? How fun it's been so far anyway.

And to the Mets in their blues and their whites and their oranges. You look effin good, bb's.

For a team with Jason Bay in the middle of the lineup, not bad.

I don't normally go for hyperbole, but this team is the greatest team in the history of organized sports.

Re: 2k12 after 3 games

Well, I will officially question the sanity of anybody who would take the Braves' lineup over ours.

I think Murphy and Tejada did not hit over their heads last season.

I think that David Wright is healthy and will perform accordingly. His glove alone looks a lot better than it has in a while.

The glass is half full mentality: I think Lucas Duda's bat will negate his glove. He'll provide entertainment, that's for sure. I think Collins will realize quickly that Murphy's not the one who most needs to be taken out for late-inning defense.

As good as they looked this weekend, I think the pitching still has the most questions. Can Niese pitch well beyond the All-Star break? How much does Johan have in the tank? Can Francisco give us a full season of this?

See, with all the talk of jacking-up-on-veterans vs. play-the-kids every team goes through, it's been too overlooked that the injuries of recent years have allowed the Mets to play the kids all along, and they now have an impressive core of something neither fish nor foul --- second-to-fifth year young veterans who are experienced, cheap, but still in a position to improve.

I write love letters to this team and I don't care who knows it. And I don't care if they don't write back.

It's un-Brave-like, but the Braves look like a team whose manager will be fired by Memorial day.

After 3 games, I would get behind a "Sign Wright NOW!!!" thread. I know it's early, but even his outs have looked MVP-ish.

On the other side, the Braves are a mess. I thought going in that they, not the Mets, were the worst team in the division. They didn't to anything over the weekend to change my mind. I agree that Gonzalez could very well have the hottest seat early this year.

Got burned on that last year. sigh.

David Wright does not have a lot of swings and misses this season yet. Nor in Spring Training. Three game streak is not unheard of in recent years (although he didn't do it before the DL last year) but it's a good sign to see.

Yeah, I've never been behind the "Wright's gonna get his share of strikeouts" resignation. Wright at his best is a contact-making man.

My eye for manager's on the hot seat is trained on Joe Girardi. Watch out for a draft-Paul-O'Niell campaign.

I knew this team was going to be good. I've been saying it all winter long.

You guys just needed to have faith in the Wilpons. They like totally know what they're doing.

But, see, it's not just the hard contact. It's the fact that he appears to be standing closer to the plate, and that-- accordingly-- he's reaching and punishing (even if foul or at a fielder)-- or laying off, as appropriate-- that outside slider that's befuddled him in recent years... and still whacking inside fastballs.

He doesn't look like guy on a hot streak. He looks like 2007 him.

Including a hot-diggity dog homer to right center

Re: 2k12 after 3 games

Passed by my Braves' fan friend en route to lunch and he said "Hi. I don't want to talk about it!" And I wasn't even going to mention the Mets.
