McDowell's strategy: "Let him bunt; don't give Tejada anything to hit; if you lose him, we'll go to our lefthander."

Downside of that strategy: Bouncing balls to the plate with runners on third has its risks.

Keep this in mind: the Mets went 6-3 to start the season against three division rivals, and did so without three key offensive players hitting much more than a lick.

Can you imagine what might happen if two of Ike, Duda and Bay get untracked?

I was watching the Atlanta telecast on Extra Innings.

Two things:
Eric Hinske, striking out in the seventh with two runners on, yelled "FUCK!" so loudly that it was very easily heard on TV.
The Braves announcers thought that Carlos Delgado was from Panama. And that included Carlos' former teammate Tom Glavine who was one of the three voices in the booth.

Not that surprising. As has been mentioned here before, Gee set a modern Buffalo franchise pitching record for strikeouts in a season.

Every Mets starter is among the top 30 ranked by ERA (NL). Can't say that about any other NL staff.

The Mets are exceeding expectations. We knew they'd have the pitching. The only question was whether they'd hit enough for the pitching to hold up.

of course, and Delgado's protests that time as Glavine will recall were over the Panama canal.

Very strange. I mean, while the guy is quiet, to the extent that he does express himself verbally and non-verbally, he's pariticularly expressive about his Puertorriquenisimo. He's spoken about not merely being Puerto Rican, but being Aguadillano. His politics are PR-centered. His charity work is PR-centered. He's represented Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. His hero is Roberto Clemente.

But the announcers for America's Team said he was Panamanian, so it must be so.

Why were they discussing Carlos Delgado at all?

Ruben Tejada was up, and they were talking about how lately more and more players are coming from Panama. And when you talk about great players from Panama, Carlos Delgado is one of the first people you think of.

I found out this morning that tonight's pitcher for the Braves, Randall Delgado, is from Panama. So maybe they think that if your name is Delgado, then you must be from Panama.
