It's no 50th anniversary conference, but a three-game winning streak would be nice, too.

I was flipping channels last night after the game and stumbled across a station showing a somewhat recent (not sure exactly when) Bachman & Turner reunion concert. Only hung on it for a few moments and clicked off when the intro to 'Ain't Seen Nuthin Yet' began (never liked that one). What I was hoping for was a rendition of 'Let it Ride' which was always my favorite BTO song.

I still associate BTO with TCB and Willie Randolph walking on to the field at Shea after a Mets win in 2006.

I know they still play the song after a win at Citi, but I will always think of Willie during the opening chords of TCB.

I wish they played a different song now.

In the brief few minutes I saw of the Bachman/Turner show, Randy Bachman introduced 'YASNY' as the song no one thought much about and only got included on the record as an afterthought ... "and then it sold ____ million copies and was #1 for ____ weeks".

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/
What is the Nasty Factor?

The Nasty Factor evaluates several properties of each pitch, and rates the "nastiness" of the pitch on a scale from 0-100, based in part on the success or failure of opposing hitters against previous similar pitches. The Nasty Factor incorporates several different factors for each pitch, including:
Velocity — The greater the pitch's velocity — as compared to that pitcher's and the league's range of speed for that pitch type — the greater the nastiness;
Sequence — The more the pitcher mixes up his pitches, the greater the nastiness… and certain pitch sequences are nastier than others, too;
Location — The closer to the edges of the strike zone is, the greater the nastiness, while pitches closer to the middle of the plate, and farther away outside the strike zone, decrease in nastiness;
Movement — The more movement the pitcher applies to the pitch — as compared to that pitcher's and the league's range of movement for that pitch type — the greater the nastiness.
The Nasty Factor also adjusts for how often the pitcher has faced the current batter during the game, as well as how often he has used the same pitch type against the same batter in the current at-bat and previously in the game.

Re: IGT 4/26/2012 MIA @ NYM: Sweep Up Fish Entrails

Fun with odds

Using the generic odds of winning stats that BB-Ref (and other places) attach to each AB during the course of a game, let's follow along with the bottom of the 9th.
Heading into that half inning the Mets had an 18% chance of winning. Remember that this is a generic figure that would get assigned to any team down by a run based on scoring trends of the current era and not specific to Mets/Fish or to those due up vs fat Heath.

* Wright walks and the odds go up to 31%
* Duda grounds out moving Wright to 2nd and the odds drop slightly to 26% -- Sac Bunt proponents take note, the outcome you were hoping for just decreased your odds of winning (and yeah I know Lucas didn't bunt, but the result was the same)
* Davis walks and the odds tick up 6 points to 32% -- so the winning run is now on base yet the odds are essentially the same as when just the tying run was on, again showing the negative value of handing away outs when you're down to your last few.
* Thole walks and now we're up to 52% -- winning run now in scoring position, tying run can score on a non-hit
* Turner walks and we jump to 83% -- the fact that it's now tied means even a GiDP here sends it to extra innings and would only drop the win pct to 50%
* Hairston grounds into force at home, odds drop 18 points to 65% -- obviously there's no scoring on an out now but the odds still in our favor because we still have one AB that can prevent them from ever getting up
* Nieuwenhuis singles -- 100% + dog pile on the infield
