Doubleheader, double debut

Yesterday we saw something rare in Mets history: two players making their Mets debuts on the same day, but in different games. This was only the seventh time that such a thing has happened, and only the second time that it wasn't during the expanded roster days of September.

August 6, 1967
Game 1: Cal Koonce
Game 2: Billy Wynne

September 19, 1969
Game 1: Bob Johnson
Game 2: Jessie Hudson

September 15, 1971
Game 1: John Milner and Buzz Capra
Game 2: Don Rose

September 1, 1984
Game 1: Herm Winningham
Game 2: Calvin Schiraldi

September 7, 1986
Game 1: Stan Jefferson
Game 2: Dave Magadan

September 8, 2011
Game 1: Chris Schwinden
Game 2: Val Pascucci

April 23, 2012
Game 1: Jeremy Hefner
Game 2: Jordany Valdespin

Re: Doubleheader, double debut

Can your magic spreadsheet conjure whether five or more players making their ML debut in April with the caveat being that none of them were on the roster for opening day is a first in NYM history or is it something more akin to the norm? (NOOOOORM!)

This year has so far featured debutants Nieuwenhuis, Valdespin, Lutz, Hefner, and, presumably before the week is out if not today, Carson.
Seems to me that the situation featuring this many guys showing up in April but not from day 1 would be unusually high, but maybe not.

Hefner isn't an MLB debut, but we've gotten three in three games, two days, and may add another tonight.

Yeah it is.
He came up through the Padres system but never played for their big league club.

This question doesn't limit itself to only those who have been NYM property all along, just for those breaking in for the first time during April but weren't there from the very beginning of the year.

No, I don't think I can do that. I don't have data about who was on the roster when, just when they played. This April certainly does seem more volatile than most though.

Re: Doubleheader, double debut

So we'd have to start with what you could do which is to generate a list of those who made NYM April debuts (rather lengthy I'm sure) and then cull it manually from there by checking on call-up dates and previous ML experience.

Hmmmm, a bit more work than I was bargaining for.

This data has to be available via b-r and retrosheet right? wish I'd set up that database.
