Close your eyes, picture a Met wearing number 19. Now open your eyes and tell me that Met's name.

(And puh-leeze don't make up some John Stephenson story if he's not really your first guy.)

Looks to be a good number for recidivist careers.

Re: Hey Nineteen

It's close between him and Bobby O, but Young stuck around for a while. A "19" on slumped shoulders may be my definitive mental image of AY's era.

Re: Hey Nineteen

I was torn between Lenny Harris and Tim Foli, but the girth and corn rows reinforces the image of Harris.

Foli's case gets augmented by a minor conflation with Ron Gardenhire --- both being white shortstops wearing 19 and sporting wispy mustaches. Sort of bookended the Torre era, too.

Re: Hey Nineteen

Definitely Bob Ojeda. In fact, he's the only player I can say with certainty wore 19.

If you gave me 1,000 guesses, I wouldn't have picked 19 for Anthony Young. (On second thought, I probably could have gotten it in less than 50 guesses, but you get the idea.)

I think that by the time Young (and Ryan Church) came along, I had pretty much stopped noticing uniform numbers.

And... I thought Tim Foli wore 11 the second time around?

Bobby O, with Lenny Harris and Roger Cedeno finishing 2nd and 3rd.

Without checking, I'm going to guess no, and that you've got Foli II blurred with Tom Veryzer.

Re: Hey Nineteen

Entirely possible. The 11's were coming fast and furious for a while there.

Re: Hey Nineteen

Did you know they assigned Zach Lutz 19?

Not a good sign for Herrera, though he was off the 40 and will be missing for the year anyhow, I can't help but think we've seen the last of him.

I clicked Anthony Young as soon as I saw him, but given some thought I might also have said Ojeda or Gardenhire.

Re: Hey Nineteen

Bobby O. I can't picture anyone else wearing it, mostly because I've actively blocked out the Cedeno years.

Yeah, that's what triggered this very important poll. Don't really associated it with thirdbasemen. More typically with going-nowhere white middle infielders.

Re: Hey Nineteen

Tim Foli.

The rumor was that the basketball coach at the high school I attended my jr. and sr. years was Tim's brother Ernie Foli. Don't know if it was true, but I believed it.

I voted Gardenhire.
First one who came to mind.

Re: Hey Nineteen

Hard not to pick Ken MacKenzie (well, only for two of us), but I went with Bobby O.
