IGT 5/7 - Mets @ Phils

Frayed Knot
May 07 2012 11:13 AM

I almost forgot that I've got a winning streak of sorts going here.

It's Niese vs Halladay
No lineups yet except to say that we're almost certainly going to be short of corned beef & rye (no Ruben)

Re: IGT 5/7 - Mets @ Phils

Valdespin was already en route to Philly as of yesterday so if they DL Ruben there's no secret that he's the choice.
But if they just want to demote a pitcher in favor of a SS while Tejada heals for 3 or 4 days then it needs to be someone else (hence the SS thread).

Nothing to examine. It was a clean play.

Re: IGT 5/7 - Mets @ Phils

From Elias: Jordany Valdespin's first major-league hit was a pinch-hit, go-ahead, two-out, three-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon that propelled the Mets to a 5-2 victory in Philadelphia. Valdespin became the first player in major-league history whose first hit was a home run off a pitcher who had 200-or-more saves to his credit-much less a home run so crucial and dramatic.

The last major-leaguer whose first major-league hit was a go-ahead homer in the ninth inning or later was Miguel Cabrera, whose first hit was a walk-off homer for the Marlins on June 20, 2003.
