4 home runs for Josh Hamilton tonight at Camden Yards. Also had a double to bring it to 18 total bases.

Strange as it may sound, the 4 Home Runs In One Game Club may be the only HR related club that did not explode with new membership during the steroid era.

Well, you COULD interpret it that way as 5 of the 16 have come since the start of the 1990s, but when compared to stuff like the single season and all time total "clubs" it could be considered a surprise that it only happened 5 times in the last 20 years.

1894 Bobby Lowe Braves
1896 Ed Delahanty Phillies
1932 Lou Gehrig Yankees
1936 Chuck Klein Phillies
1948 Pat Seerey White Sox
1950 Gil Hodges Dodgers
1954 Joe Adcock Braves
1959 Rocky Colavito Indians
1961 Willie Mays Giants
1976 Mike Schmidt Phillies
1986 Bob Horner Braves
1993 Mark Whiten Cardinals
2002 Mike Cameron Mariners
2002 Shawn Green Dodgers
2003 Carlos Delgado Blue Jays
2012 Josh Hamilton Rangers

Cool thing about that game is that LaRoche put the Nats on top with a 2R HR in the top of the 9th, only to lose it in the bottom to the 2R/2-out Barajas jack.

Braves just won, but it's still a "+3" night for us in the NL East -- picked up games on Wash, Phil & Miami while staying neutral with Atlanta

Re: OOTS 5/8/12

btw, the number of Hamilton's HRs that went over the short porch in RF at Camden Yards?

None. One to LF and three were straight-away.

Doesn't that 18 TB equal the all-time single game record? IIRC it was Joe Adcock who did it.

Re: OOTS 5/8/12

Pretty sure Shawn Green had 19 at Miller Park during his 4-HR game.

OE: Yep.

Where's that image from? the Orioles broadcast? Don't they usually do those things in like the 5th inning?

And Oakland scores five in the ninth-- the last four courtesy of a Brandon Inge walkoff slam-- to beat Toronto 7-3. There were MAYBE 3000 people left in the stands when it happened.

Re: OOTS 5/8/12

From Will Leitch at New York magazine online:
The last three men to hit four homers in a game — Mike Cameron for Seattle in 2002, Shawn Green for Los Angeles in 2002, and Delgado for Toronto in 2003 — all ended up playing for the Mets within four years of their achievement. Hey, Hamilton is a free agent after this season ...

i had him down for 4.4 schaefer votes, but have since tweaked my algorithm to escalate votes for homers more than 2 and for total bases more than 10.

blame goes to neftali feliz for having a good outing of 6 innings, 4 hits, and 8 strikeouts, with none of those pesky at bat thingies that tend to drag down our own pitchers' performances.
