Kirk Niuwenhuis has a damn good chance to win the coveted National League Rookie of the Month Award. OK, it's not very coveted... or even... known, but it's apparently been around for 11 years, but has decorated the résumé of only one Met. Name that lone Met who Kirk may perhaps join. Bonus points for naming the month and year.

It would be fun if they qualified the term "rookie" for the purposes of that award, to mean, rather than players who have garnered no more than X appearances prior to that season, but players who have garnered no more than X appearances prior to that month. So as you can only qualify for and win the Rookie of the Year award in one season, so you could only qualify for and win the Rookie of the Month award in a single month. They'd have some spectacularly obscure winners.
