Mets sporting hockey jerseys en route to Canada.
Kick some ass, eh.

Trying to upload pics from twitter unless someone can beat my Canuck kicking ass to it.

Re: Hockey Night

So Wright wears a fictitious jersey, so as not to fragment his fan base. Brilliant thinking.

These Mets travel-themed attire parties are pretty ridiculous. It would be like other teams getting dressed as Mobsters or Wall Street Suits each time they travel to New York.

I'd hate to think what the Mets would have done if they had a regular season game in Japan.

I have this image of Frank Francisco walking through Japanese customs wearing nothing but a Sumo diaper. And RA Dickey as a Kamikaze Pilot. And Jason Bay as a Seppuku-committing Ronin Bushido .....oh wait, wrong fantasy.

Jason Bay wins with the Whaler uni.

Interesting that Johan went with a Minnesota Wild jersey. It's been five years since he pitched there.

Re: Hockey Night

The Hartford Whalers logo is one of my favorites because of the way the negative space makes an H and the tail forms a W.

I love the old Milwaukee Brewers logo for the same reason since the fingers and stitching of the glove form an M and the thumb, pocket and ball form a B.

The Montreal Expos follows the same design principles since the stylized M has an "e" for Expos and "b" for baseball in it, but it never worked for me because it's too busy and looks like it reads "ello" more than anything else.

Anyhow, they don't seem to design logos like this anymore which is too bad.

Re: Hockey Night

That Brewer logo was the one where both Gary & Keith admitted a few days ago that it took them years to figure out that there was an 'M' and a 'B' in the design for Milwaukee and Brewers

The Expos logo always looked like it said ELB to me.

never noticed myself. It looks too much like a glove and the b is to the left of the m so it's not readily obvious to me.

Yes, craptacular logos like these:

Re: Hockey Night

I'm OK with the White Sox logo. It doesn't say much, but it has dignity.

The other three, respectively, say to me:

"This team features the illegitimate children of Ben Franklin!"

"A mysterious and nefarious multi-national corporation has taken over the US Government!"

"This team sucks so much, they make savages pause and laugh hysterically in the middle of their bloody raids!"

None of those logos feature designs made up of letters representing the name of the team. And yes they are craptacular. Perhaps if they'd made something clever with CWS, PP, WS or CI they would look a lot better.

Re: Hockey Night

Well, many of the logos you reference are more insignia type logos --- the ones used on hats as opposed to the ones that appear on sleeves or shirt fronts or on-deck circles. (Though the elements overlap with many teams.)
I have to say that, as far as hat insigniae go, this one always drove me bonkers, because the F and the fish have different geometric centers, so the hat never seemed to be on straight.

In French, the logo is read "EdM" = Expos de Montrιal

Doesn't the green part make the "W" rather than the tail?

Good point. I guess the blue part is distinctively the tail, I was just guessing that the green part was also part of the tail.

That Brewers logo is hideous for the amount of love it gets. Hideous I tell you!

The Whalers logo is a classic.

The Expos was very distinctive but never made sense to me.

Re: Hockey Night

Count me among those who have a hideous love for the Brewers logo. I spotted the MB in the glove immediately and I think the whole thing is awfully darn clever.

Also, I've known for years that that Expos' elb is an M, but I still can't quite see it.

Re: Hockey Night

I totally get that its a ball and glove and M and B, it's just ugly. The shape is odd, the font is weird, it has nothing to do with Milwaukee or Brewing.

I'd settle for the reviled orange and blue (which I got a kick out of despite its unassailable ridiculousness).

You know those posters that were semi-popular a few years back that you would have to cross your eyes, un-focus and stare at in order to see the 'hidden' picture? Yeah, well I could never see the picture.

However the 'm' & 'b' in the Brewers logo and the 'M' in the Expos logo? I mean really? You guys can't see those? All of a sudden I don't feel so retarded anymore.

Re: Hockey Night

Only hockey jersey I've ever owned (and it wasn't easy to come by) was an Ottawa Senators road jersey -- no player name -- from the late 1990s when they still wore dark on the road. I had no interest in the Ottawa Senators per se except I just loved that damn thing. Then it didn't quite right and I had no problem discarding it.

Kevin Kierst should consider the Senators in case Al Leiter ("Senator Al") or Elliott Maddox (one of the last active Washington Senators) rejoin the organization before the next trip to Toronto.

Re: Hockey Night

Adam Rubin all over this momentum-killing team-bonding exercise:

Collins bought 30 NHL jerseys and supplied them to many of the players, including Andres Torres, for the trip to Toronto. Because Torres was born in New Jersey, he was assigned a Devils jersey.

The center fielder did not understand why he was getting taunted by so many people while out in public -- presumably Rangers fans. Collins said "traitor" chants were directed at Torres. "He didn't know anything about it," Collins said. "People are screaming at him."

Johan Santana joked he ordered a Venezuelan national hockey team jersey but it never arrived. He represented the Minnesota Wild instead.

Can picture Terry holding an emotional press conference to defend Torres's honor.

It's my fault. I bought the jersey. Don't blame Andres. Andres can't help where he was born. Don't blame Kevin. Kevin's doing what he's supposed to do. It's on me, OK? Andres is no traitor. There are no traitors here. This area has three hockey teams, but it's not about hockey. It's about team. And it's my fault. You need to put someone in the penalty box, lock me in there. Anything else?
