Possible Outages in Your Area
Edgy MD May 11 2012 10:55 AM |
We may do some testing, turning the forum on and off, experimenting with where the apparent issue is with what appears to be a malicious attack on the forum.

metirish May 11 2012 11:27 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
So maybe this is why I am getting blocked at work all day?
Benjamin Grimm May 11 2012 11:29 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Yes. And you may have provided us with an important clue as well.
Ceetar May 11 2012 11:35 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |

Benjamin Grimm May 11 2012 11:42 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
It seems like it's only (or mostly?) coming up when I navigate to or from the Board Index.

I haven't seen anything. Is this why it was so quiet last night?

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 11 2012 12:29 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 11 2012 01:35 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Whether by home computer (Mac and PC, both via FiOS) or mobile device (T-Mobile Android thingy), I got no worry.
Benjamin Grimm May 11 2012 01:39 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
One silver lining in this mess is that it allowed me to discover this fascinating web site, which shares a server with the Crane Pool Forum: http://katpuke.com
soupcan May 11 2012 02:48 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |

batmagadanleadoff May 12 2012 06:24 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
I just got a pop-up message that my anti-virus program detected and removed a trojan from my computer. No further action (on my part, I assume), is necessary. I then got the same message twice more -- whenever I clicked that recommended bookmark to link to the Baseball Forum.
batmagadanleadoff May 12 2012 11:05 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
I just got the pop-up trojan message again. Right after I log in, I'm automatically directed to that supersized index page. Then the trojan pop-up appears. I tried to grab a screen image of the trojan notification with snipping tool but as soon as I click the snipping tool icon, the pop up disappears.
batmagadanleadoff May 13 2012 09:32 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Logged in. Risky connection blocked. Trojan detected and removed. AM I the only one still getting these messages?
TransMonk May 13 2012 01:48 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Something's still not right because I still get the super-sized index page. I'm just checking in to post my KTE and check on the weirdness.
batmagadanleadoff May 13 2012 02:01 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Here are frame grabs of the anti-virus messages I keep getting whenever I log in.

Frayed Knot May 13 2012 03:23 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 13 2012 05:09 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Getting malware warnings when I go through the cranepoolforum.net portal.
Fman99 May 13 2012 06:58 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Same here. For now I've bookmarked the baseball and non-baseball forums so I can reach them directly.
metirish May 14 2012 07:36 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Still getting blocked at work.
G-Fafif May 14 2012 02:19 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Safari browser on which I usually visit CPF gives me a malware message. Firefox is OK.
Ceetar May 14 2012 02:32 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
this is 'why' chrome is giving me a warning: content from vzdqgxkj.ftpserver.biz
metsmarathon May 14 2012 10:31 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
chrome yells about it too, now. i expect the site to be blocked at work tomorrow.
metirish May 15 2012 06:41 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Any resolution with this?, I can't access the site at work which is where I mostly post from and even at home my chromebook doesn't want me to come here.
Benjamin Grimm May 15 2012 06:50 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
No, no resolution yet. I was blocked at work yesterday, but apparently not today. (Or at least, not yet today.)
Ceetar May 15 2012 07:03 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Chrome gives me the option to proceed anyway, which I do.
metirish May 15 2012 07:08 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Actually, using IE at work and am not getting blocked................yet

Benjamin Grimm May 15 2012 07:47 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Yes, the issue is on the server somewhere. And moving the forum somewhere else is a big task and is not being considered.
metirish May 15 2012 07:58 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Last time we movied was in 2006?, IIRC it was indeed a big task for those of youse doing the lifting.
Ceetar May 15 2012 08:02 AM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
yeah, never moved a forum myself. wasn't sure if it was as simple as a download a whole directory, upload a whole directory
Benjamin Grimm May 15 2012 12:05 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
I removed some badness about an hour ago. (There was code in our index.html page that was redirecting us to some Russian site.)
G-Fafif May 15 2012 12:09 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
To reiterate, no problems on Firefox, "malware" notice on Safari.
Ceetar May 15 2012 12:12 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
apparently http://buschurracing.com/ is hosted in the same place. not exciting though.
Ceetar May 15 2012 01:07 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
nope, big text again and malware from: xycujqm.ns02.biz
metirish May 15 2012 01:39 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Looks like I got a virus on my work PC.... Not good.
Edgy MD May 15 2012 01:47 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Looks like we got some new skin here.
Benjamin Grimm May 15 2012 01:49 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
I'm checking to see if changing the style sheet gets rid of the problem. The large text on the board index page makes me think that the styles may have been hacked. I do have a backup version of "Caribbean" that I can restore if necessary. If the problem goes away with this new look, then that will confirm that the style sheet was the issue.
Ceetar May 15 2012 01:51 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
nope, same error, same referenced url as the last time.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 15 2012 01:52 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Safari asks me not to get on. If I ignore, it repeats warning with every load. Phone is only place I can get on without a warning. I have new pc at home, I don't wanna risk fucking it up so soon.
Ceetar May 15 2012 02:00 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
could it be the rss feed?
G-Fafif May 15 2012 02:08 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Stylish! But still a problem on Safari as noted.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 15 2012 02:23 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Still a problem on Safari... and ALSO a problem on Firefox.
batmagadanleadoff May 15 2012 08:02 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Is it safe?
G-Fafif May 15 2012 09:13 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Knowing not everybody can get on makes me feel like I'm reading the strike edition of the Daily News in 1990-91: Not quite right.
Benjamin Grimm May 16 2012 12:44 PM Re: Possible Outages in Your Area |
Yes! This morning I requested that Websense do a fresh scan of the site, and this afternoon at around 1:30 they got back to me saying that the forum is free of badness. If you're blocked at work it may take a little while for your employer to get the update. (It took about an hour for my company to lift the blockade.) The other company which had been giving "blocked" messages was Google. Their review is still pending, but I expect that we'll get an all clear from them too. Summary: The forum is safe. You may still be blocked for another few hours or longer but that is only because it may take a little while for the news to spread. But if you can get here, you can hang out without fear.
