We'll try and get to the bottom of this soon. If you want to continue to visit, please make sure your security/firewall software is up to date.

One silver lining in this mess is that it allowed me to discover this fascinating web site, which shares a server with the Crane Pool Forum: http://katpuke.com

And don't worry, it's safe for work! No painted naked ladies.

Email from forum host:

There has been a zero day security vulnerability announced when running php as cgi. It appears that this is an issue in most versions of PHP.
Here is the announcement from php.net

We are patching all shared hosting servers. All dedicated servers should also be patched if they run php as cgi.

Re: Possible Outages in Your Area

I just got a pop-up message that my anti-virus program detected and removed a trojan from my computer. No further action (on my part, I assume), is necessary. I then got the same message twice more -- whenever I clicked that recommended bookmark to link to the Baseball Forum.

Re: Possible Outages in Your Area

I just got the pop-up trojan message again. Right after I log in, I'm automatically directed to that supersized index page. Then the trojan pop-up appears. I tried to grab a screen image of the trojan notification with snipping tool but as soon as I click the snipping tool icon, the pop up disappears.

Re: Possible Outages in Your Area

I removed some badness about an hour ago. (There was code in our index.html page that was redirecting us to some Russian site.)

Since we're still seeing the giant font on the index page, I suspect that something is still wrong somewhere.

From this point forward, please post something here if you see any more error messages that come up when you successfully access the forum. Be sure to mention what browser you're using.

If you're blocked from visiting the forum, that's another story. Sites like Google and Websense have us labeled as evil and even if the problem is fixed, it may be a while until these external sites recognize that and stop blocking us.

I'm checking to see if changing the style sheet gets rid of the problem. The large text on the board index page makes me think that the styles may have been hacked. I do have a backup version of "Caribbean" that I can restore if necessary. If the problem goes away with this new look, then that will confirm that the style sheet was the issue.

Safari asks me not to get on. If I ignore, it repeats warning with every load. Phone is only place I can get on without a warning. I have new pc at home, I don't wanna risk fucking it up so soon.

Re: Possible Outages in Your Area

Yes!

This morning I requested that Websense do a fresh scan of the site, and this afternoon at around 1:30 they got back to me saying that the forum is free of badness. If you're blocked at work it may take a little while for your employer to get the update. (It took about an hour for my company to lift the blockade.)

The other company which had been giving "blocked" messages was Google. Their review is still pending, but I expect that we'll get an all clear from them too.

Summary: The forum is safe. You may still be blocked for another few hours or longer but that is only because it may take a little while for the news to spread. But if you can get here, you can hang out without fear.
